Just got an email from Ruger....

They're introducing the Single 9, which is the Single 10 in 22mag. I had a single 10 for a while and liked it a lot (just didn't love it), and wound up selling it towards my 1911. It wasn't as accurate as I had hoped, but it sure was a good looking gun.

I'm not sure why you'd want the 22 mag, but I suppose there is some small critter shooting that the 22 mag makes sense for. When I had an original Single Six with 22lr and 22mag I almost never shot the mag.

How'd you get that magazine to fit?

Yeah I just got the same email. Looks like a decent idea, but I don't want one. I'm happy with my single-six convertible. I haven't shot .22 mag in it for a long time, but still shoot .22lr in it.

Doggone it, now you make me want to go get a box of .22 mag just for fun.

Actually, that gives me hope that they might release a LCR22WMR.

Yeah I don't know why not. Plenty of length in the cylinder of the .22lr lcr. Maybe a 6-shot version instead of 5 or 8.

It would be interesting to know how many people actually shoot the 22 mag. I think I've shot maybe 100 in the 10 years or so I owned a single six convertable. I imagine there is varmit hunting or some good reason for the 22 mag but for plinking I don't know why to bother.

Although, that Keltec with 30 rounds of 22mag would be a hoot to own. And a great zombie gun if the inevitable happens.

I'm considering buying a single six convertible. Its $350 with pearl grips. How accurate is it? I have a Ruger MKII Gov't Target Competition model (6 7/8 slab sided bull barrel) its very accurate, but I really want a .22 thats accurate just for fun.

I don't have a .22 mag pistol at this time, but I like my .22wmr Savage as a small-medium varmint rifle, particularly in this area where a centerfire rifle has too much range, but a .22lr doesn't have the legs or the power for a clean kill.

A .22 mag pistol would be handy for a nice, lightweight around the farm pistol. .22lr gets to be a bit too anemic, out of short barrels even more so.

That, and while .22lr can have slightly poor ignition, I have yet to ever have a dud .22wmr. Not certain why, as they are both rimfires...

Mine is moderately accurate. More with .22wmr than lr. Some guys on rimfirecentral.com have demonstrated great accuracy with theirs.

here's a recent thread with specifics: Is this accuracy as good is it will get? - RimfireCentral.com Forums

I found the accuracy with the Single 10 a dissapointment. Compared to my UDX Buckmark or my Smith 617 it wasn't close. I shoot tons of 22, and I never do a range session without shooting at least double the rounds with my 22's as centerfires as they're the best training possible (teaches you not to flinch). I wound up hardly ever shooting the Single 10 as it just wasn't close to my other guns.

It's my understanding that the barrels of the Single Six are actually set at 22 mag dimensions so they are much more accurate with the mag rounds than the LR rounds, and that they use the same barrel on the Single 10's and that's why they're not particularly accurate. Who knows, but as much as I love the looks and feel of the Single 10 I couldn't get past the fact it just wasn't particularly accurate.

I carry .22 mag in rat shot for the snakes when I go bow hunting. And with the hurricane that just passed it pushed a lot of snakes out of the swamp and into my yard and took out 5 just this past week with it.
