Kimber Solo
Hello all, I am the proud owner of a couple XD's and a XD-M all in .40 cal. I am looking into a new conceal carry and have taken a look at several. S&W Shield is one of the ones at the top of my list as of now only because I have not laid my eyes or hands on a Kimber Solo! Anyone out there have any input on the Solo? I have read several articles about issues with the first few that came out and have also read that this problem was resolved as well. Contacted several Kimber dealers and they all say the same thing "About 6-8Months backorder". I will prob just end up getting the Shield as I do like the weapon, but am really interested in getting my hands on a Solo CDP! Any input?

Look at the warranties between then 2, and you should be pretty much decided. Can't go wrong with the M&P.

S&W = Good customer service. Dunno about kimber.

Kimber has really good CS as well and I've heard many a tale on here about people who got warranty work done on their kimbers waaay after the "one year warranty" had expired. I don't know about the Solo itself but the warranty shouldn't be your deciding factor here.

Thanks for the input guys. As far as a comparison between the two, I more than likely will go ahead and get the S&W as I have read good stuff on them and have had good luck with them in the past. Not to mention that it shoots like a dream. As for the Kimber, I will, one day, own one of these as well. Just do not know where in the world I will find one!!!!!  lol

Gun club I belong to has had one in the case for awhile now. Used, $700 range.

I have spoken to my Local Gun Shop and they have had me on the waiting list for the last couple months. I work in Brazil and before I left to come here 3 weeks ago, I called LGS and Kimber and the story is still the same. 6+ Months backorder. I also have my name in the hat at a couple other dealers. I would rather go NIB rather than used as of now, but may change my mind as time goes on.

If you need to buy now I would pass on the Solo. If you're looking for a carry gun I would limit my choices to guns that have been out for a while with a real solid track record, which the Solo does not have. There are good choices in that size range or smaller, the Sheild, a Kahr, even a XD-s.

You may want to look at Sig 938 also. But it just came out and is not easy to find either.
