p220 light primer strikes resolved!

So...a highly recommended smith looked over my Sig today. The previous owner had cut the hammer spring almost in half. Sure it made for a light trigger pull, but it was the cause of the light primer strikes. He went through the pistol, and everything else was good to go. He replaced the spring for me, test fired twice and gave it back to me. Charged me $10 and I got a mini education on spring replacement and found a new gun shop to go to.

Hopefully I can hit the range again this weekend. The difference is night and day from the dry firing I've done since I've been home. The hammer and trigger feel much tighter than it did.

That is all for now.

Wow...that is NEVER a good idea. Cutting coils from springs in a pistol can lead to many problems and should NEVER be done. Go to a lighter spring...maybe...but again...you could sacrifice some reliability.

I bet that thing runs like the devil, now. Go out and enjoy it - the P220 is a great shooter.

this is why i absolutely REFUSE to buy a used gun.....

I'll pay extra for a new one for the peace-of-mind that some idiot "shadetree" gunsmith has not beat on it and screwed it up

Used or not I wasn't passing up a German Sig for the price I got it for.

I love used guns as most times they are just broken in, and sometimes like in your case they offer a chance to learn something. You actually use the gun so the problem revealed itself on the range vs a moment of need. Winning in my book!

Oh hell yes....I'd buy used W. German SIG P-series if it only needed a replacement spring.

That P220 with its bad spring is still tons better than most new 45s on the market today.
