brass flecks on my slide

I was cleaning my M&P 40 the other day and I found some brass flecks on my slide and then looked at the spent cases sure enough they were scratched. I can not find any burs on the barrel or mag. Is this something I should worry about or not.

I shot winchester white box and speer gold dot that day, and the gold dots cases did have scratches too.

Where are the scratches on the cartridge case? Take a look at the extractor groove/rim on the cases for signs of removed brass. It is possible that the extractor is shearing off some brass. Also look at the firing pin hole. I had a LC9 (I know its apples and oranges, but may be worth taking a look at), that due to the angle the case was being ejected (back end of case pivoted up, then ejected to the right) the rim sheared on the firing pin hole. The result was brass shavings on the slide and in the firing pin channel. Easy fix. I broke the corner (chamfered) of the firing pin hole by hand with a drill bit.

The cartridge may be hitting the slide when it is ejecting. Not sure. Seen a lot of handguns that have brass marks near the ejection port due to the cartridge hitting the slide on the way out. Pictures would help.

My Sigs shave off enormous amounts of brass flakes, it's rather normal but I notice my Sigs do it more than my other pistols.

Scratches are more than likely from the lips on the mags. as the round is being pushed foward by the slide. Might even find some brass flakes down inside the mags if you take them apart. Not uncommon at all.
