Do some research on third gen numbering. 9mm are:
39xx single stack
59xx double stack
69xx compact double stack

Third digit designates frame size and action, for example:
xx4x DAO

xx2x DA with decock
etc...

Forth digit is for frame material:
xxx3 is alloy
xxx6 is stainless

You should find a 5903 and see if it suits you. Great guns.

You just made me remember that (once upon a time) I owned a single stack 3904. I should not have sold that gun..

a 5946 was my first semi auto.... I had always had revolvers before then and bought it because it was a DAO semi auto.
Used it as my bedside gun for years. Now its just a range gun.
A nice solid heavy gun that has never failed to go bang till the mag runs dry. Its a great trainer with its softer recoil.

I love my gen 3 guns. I have a 6904 and a 5906. Are there any books on S&W gen 3 semi autos? Would like to know just how many there are.

I have a minty 5906 and I love it. I wish I could find a 5904 or a 5906TSW (with the rail).

The Lady Smith model was arguably the best carry pistol of its day, but I was a little too proud to carry a gun that said Lady on it.

My GF has a 3914 LS, and I used to carry it on a fairly regular basis. I have also taken numerous classes with it, and it has been incredibly reliable and accurate.

Here is my current EDC:

Since then, I have converted the decocker/safety to decocker only:

I don't have any 3rd gen Smiths, but I love my gen 2's. 915, 645, and 745. Bought them all new back then.
