Kel Tec PF9 ammo question

I just picked up a PF9 and am wondering if anyone on here that owns one has any experience with +P ammo out of it.

Also looking for recommendations on SD ammo from anyone that's done any testing.

Thanks.

I carried one for two years. Mine was a good one and ate anything I fed it without any problems. I carried Corbon DPX in 115 gr. +p' Good ammo. I'm currently carrying a Springfield XD9SC loaded with Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. +p Short Barrel. Whatever ammo you choose, run 2-3 boxes through your gun to verify the reliability.

This gun is small and light, and will kick HARD with +p loads. I used a Paccy slip on grip and it helped a lot. It's not a gun you want to put a couple hundred rounds through in one practice session at the range. It's designed for "up close and personal" self defense, and in that role, performs well.

The Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. +p Short Barrel is one I'm looking at. I've carried Corbon in every pistol I've owned so I'm also looking at their 125 gr +P. I'm also looking at the Speer Gold Dot 124 and 147 gr (non +P). And possibly the Remington Golden Saber 124 gr +P and their 147 gr non +P.

I don't plan on shooting +P ammo regularly out of this gun, just wondering if it will handle it.

Kel-Tecs will run +P fine, on a limited basis. The manual states: "The PF-9 will accept +P ammunition, however not with continuous use."

Basically, +P ammo's increased pressures could accelerate the wear on the PF-9, which may result in the need for more frequent service. The great part is, Kel-Tec supplies replacement parts for no cost.

For range use, Wal-Mart Federal 115gr FMJ has the better performance record. For SD, mine likes Speer 'LE' Gold Dot and Winchester SXZ (Bass Pro exclusive) the best.

Some on KTOG who Chrono 9mm have written that the performance of +P out of a 3" barrel wasn't significant enough to warrant the extra 'wear & tear' it exerts on the Subcompact.

I have had pretty good luck with +P ammo in my kel-tec. I suggest that whatever you choose make sure it feeds reliably. Once you find a round you trust just use it for home defense/carry. As the other members have stated +P will speed up wear on your handgun...or any handgun for that matter.

I usually put 1 - 2 hundreds rounds through mine in a session. After the extractor fix it has eaten everything I have fed it. The cheap federal champion is what everyone one the kel tec forum loves. I buy it whenever Wally world has the 100 value box in stock. They are great little guns, I hardly remember I am carrying it.

It must have been a very small boat.

As an FFL dealer I have sold many PF-9s as BUGs...all to LEOs. I also carry one myself. I have never encountered any problems whatsoever with this pistol. It is a fine gun that runs reliably, no matter what ammo I use.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But hey, at least the guy had a helpful response regarding my inquiry on ammo for the Kel Tec.
