New Shield

Just picked up a new Shield and having some difficulty removing the slide. I drop the mag, lock the slide back, drop the little yellow sear, rotate the take down lever....but the slide won't come forward....it will un-lock from the slide stop, but won't slide of the frame.

Every other pistol I own--like the XDM's and SIGS, field strip in the same way...what am i doing wrong? Or is there something wrong with the pistol?

You are doing it correctly. Just tried it on my Shield just as you wrote and works fine. Might be something wrong or it's just so new the slide is so tight on there. Have you tried pulling the trigger after releasing the slide? Wish I could be of more help to you. Is the safety on? Just spitballing here...

Try this:

Lock the slide back on an empty mag...

Turn the disassembly switch down.

Let the slide go back forward, and THEN pull the trigger. It will come off just
Like a Glock.

You do not have to push the yellow switch down in the maxwell to remove the slide. It will not break anything either. Someone stated they called S&W and asked.

You DO have to push the yellow piece down before putting the slide back, however.

Ok...I tried the above. Nothing. The slide won't come off. It will release from the slide-lock, but it won't come off the frame. wtf?

Never had that problem with mine.
Only thing I could say try is start process over, insert a mag, rake the slide & then eject mag & make sure you pushing the yellow sear all the way down. Should come right off if not I'd take it back or call S&W. Good luck man....

It's a no go. I think I'm bringing it in to the gun shop tomorrow, have them check it out.

Probably a good idea. Stinks you're having problems though man. Hope they can fix you up. Worst case they have to send it in to S&W which has great customer service & good turn around time from my experience.

True... If you don't push the yellow lever down, just releasing the slide and pulling the trigger will normally release the slide the remainder of the way.

No you don't.
I don't touch that blasted yellow lever at all and everything has gone just fine.
Now the RUGER lever (SR9c and similar) does need to be lowered during reassembly.

Jim... Let us know how the trip to the shop goes.

Well, I had my new Shield for less than 24 hours. I brought it in to the GS where I bought it....they were flumoxed, too.
They sent it off to S&W.

Well, someone on another forum said it had to be done. I started just pulling the trigger to take the slide off. I had been pushing the yellow piece back down to reassemble after reading someone's claim. Never tried it without pushing it down. Interesting...
