should I mod out my M&P or not?

My original intentions were to fully trick out my M&P with everything i could. After a trigger and dawson sights,i shot my first ever match and won. So i still think i shoot a little better than my factory barrel does..so i kinda want a kkm barrel (without comp) now since no one else shoots one. What are your opinions about shooting your relatively stock gun against a guy with a tricked out one? Id think that eventually some will start thinking that the gun beat them, not the guy shooting iT

I LOVE outshooting someone with a pimped out gun, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I usually feel so good I don't hear thier excuses.

Keep in mind Jarret and Leatham can beat you, me, everybody with a Hi-Point and jerry miculek just needs a sharp stick.

Who cares what anyone thinks...

The shooter makes the gear, not the other way around.

Yup, "it's not the crate, it's the guy flying the crate".

I say the K.I.S.S. System is best I remember when I 1st started shooting a bow and hunting with one I had a Jennings Uni-Star and all my friends has these pendulum lighted sites and over draws and lights and gadgets on there bows I wanted to shoot like them and have all the equipment my friends had I went into LGS and was putting all this stuff on the shelf the owner told me to do the K.I.S.S. system and I would be happier cause the more you do is the more you have to get used to and the more that can compound problems. I say shoot, shoot, shoot, Do what works best for you and build little by little. Save your money & get a Kimber then you will know what a nice shooting pistol is.

I have a friend who owns two M&P 9 Pros. One has an Apex comp kit and Dawson sights while the other has Apex FSS kit and Dawson sights. He put a KKM barrel in his ESP gun (FSS kit) and benched both guns. Not enough difference in accuracy to justify the cost of the aftermarket barrel. I also have a 9 Pro with the Apex comp kit; all three bench pretty much the same. In my opinion there will be no aftermarket barrel for me until the accuracy of the stock barrel degrades to the point of costing me points down. I think it will be a long, long time before that happens.

Depends on what you plan on doing with it.

Does it not already give you tight groups? Do you struggle with the stock trigger? (not hard on the M&P...the trigger is the worst part of this pistol)

How about sights? Could you shoot better with better sights?

Usually swapping sights and adjusting a trigger on any pistol will give you better results. Beyond that...unless you are getting really large groups no matter what you do, a barrel swap probably won't buy you much.

So what if the barrel gives you 1/2" tighter groups? What does that buy you in a defensive role or at the IDPA match? Not much for the money you spend on the barrel and having it fit to the gun.

You could also sacrifice reliability and that is never good.

I'd start with the trigger and sights and see how it groups after those mods...THEN decide if a new barrel is needed.

I am not big on changing things just to change them. Change things only if the pistol really, really needs the changes.

Sounds like you shoot it well, leave it alone until the need is there enough to not have to ask a bunch of strangers on the Internet what you should do.

I'm trying to do this more myself, actually.

I guess my only objective was to see how someone would feel if i turned this into "nascar". I come from shooting. 22 rimfire benchrest and bullet for bullet, its the SAME price, believe it or not. So im kinda used to changing things around to see little gain. I enjoyed shooting this match and dont want to have people look at my placing and think its from equipment. Talent AND equipment need to match somewhat to get the best results in my opinion.
