Just purchased a very ugly gun ... (man I could punch myself for selling my xdm)

Some may have read my other thread on here. I wanted to get my fiancé a ring , so I made the worst decision in my life to sell my XDm 45c , and LCR -- so I can get ONE decent gun .. And a nice ring for my (then fiancé). I sold my two favorite guns and figured I'd grab a S&W Shield. Got it , and then see a FB picture that abruptly ended the engagement.

I sold my XDm for $550 , I had paid $690+ tax , and and had James install TFO's , I had a leather iwb.... So I took a huge loss. I also lost around $100 on the LCR.

I hadn't fired the Shield , but put TFO's on it....

After going back and forth with myself -- and going with my gut , I sold the Shield. I took a small loss , and whenever I have enough money saved up I will DEFINITELY purchase another one. The thing is -- I now live alone , and going from 13rd of .45 by my bed , and 5 rounds of .357 -- to 8 shots of .40 (for me) wasn't a good feeling despite how well the shield felt and the amazing size of it.

I don't have the $$ to replace my $700+ XDm , but I will not let a woman bring me all the way down. I decided I will put $50 worth of furniture on my WASR , and get the most I can out of a pistol in the $500 range.

So I bought this ugly , ugly , ugly Block 29 10mm. I no longer feel undergunned , and despite it being ugly -- I like the 10mm round , and feel this is the best platform for it. I deeply regret selling my XDm , it was perfect and IMO the best semi money can buy.

So now I have some change in the bank , and for $550 (what I paid for the shield + TFO's) here's what I got. (tapco handguard , new red/green dot and g29)

Tried to join blocktalk forums but I guess they make you wait a year of so for "approval".

Notes : The Glock (for me) was a pain in the ass to strip. My big nail less fingers pushing the takedown "buttons" on each side down hurt like hell. And on top of that -- when I reassembled the gun I pulled the slide back and everything got "stuck". I took it to the LGS and after a laugh it was "fixed" in 3 seconds. I apparently aligned the guide rod and recoil spring wrong.

Any tips for field stripping to avoid the issue I had this morning ? And any mods I should look at ? I'm thinking TFO's is first next month -- but I don't know anything about glocks , and their forum won't "approve" me for weeks (what I hear).

And I'm doing well -- and going to find another woman who can fulfill my life , and not looking back.

Dam man you've been through a lot these past few weeks..... A lot of selling and buying. I have a lot of glocks very easy to strip, make sure it clear, pull the trigger so its set back, basically cock the slide maybe an 1" holding it in that position slide down both of the tabs. Let go the slide and it should properly fall off, pull the spring out and barrel just as you do most semi autos. When done put the barrel back and the recoil spring, slide the slide on the rails and bam your done.

Glocktalk approves instantly, I've been a member there for I believe 2years unless they changed there registration process approval is instant, a few months ago they got hacked and registrations weren't getting approved but since then they upgraded there security and back to normal.

Good luck with everything I'm one that believes everything happens for a reason even if you do not seeing during the hurtful time.

Take care

Thanks man and tell me about it !!! I tried to return the Shield , but the LGS said "they are hot right now and I would sell it privately -- you'd get much more then we can give you". I told him I just sold 2 guns and don't like private sales -- he said I'm fine and I sold it to a CCW owner (nice guy).

I don't know what the hell I did wrong when reassembling that sucker this morning ... The barrel and rod were sticking out -- and everything was stuck. My LGS said I most likely didn't align the spring correctly ???

And I applied at glocktalk this morning and have yet to be approved

That must of been a ****** pic to have ended an engagement that you obviously put much time and effort into, not to mention finances.

Sorry man about what happened, but good job on moving on.

Minkman555,

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Both with guns and women.

I suppose the only encouragement that I can offer is this:

Most guys don't want either an ugly gun, or an ugly woman. But if you have these, you don't have to be too concerned about either being taken away.

The big problem, with good looking guns, or good looking women, is that EVERYBODY wants them.

Your best bet with women, is to find a big, fat, tattooed woman. That way, you'll have shade in the summer, heat in the winter, and moving pictures all year around.

I don't know about your gun. You just may be screwed there...

Please take this as intended. I'm just trying to add some humor to a bad situation. I feel your pain. I've been there myself.

I wish you better luck the next time around. Really.

Thanks,

Duane

luckiest guy in the room

You don't believe right now but I can find 1000's of guys who would agree with me. Your smartin' right now - being decieved hurts.

But so you are out a few hundred bucks big deal. Great news you found out about her now not later. I would have cost thousands later. Count your blessings.

Me and half of the men in the country would have loved to have gotten off so easily.

You will recover and in 6 months, it will be old news.

Suck it up and go live your life. More guns are made every day.

Yes you are fortunate, better an ugly gun than none and better either than a bad marriage.

Please take away from this never selling **** to make a wedding/present anything happen. You would have been bitter about it no matter what you think. I've known buddies that did that, hell when I was 16 I sold a 10/22 my grandfather had left me to be able to take a girl I was convinced I was in love with to a winter formal.

Next time you'll go into it right, buy her what you can afford or don't buy it, and you'll watch facebook real close before selling guns

Oh, and if you ever decide to buy a ring again email me, I'll give my usual lecture/educational speech on why diamonds are a complete scam and how to buy your "insert romantic interest title here" something that will be pretty and actually have some value.
