Chrome plated?
I was just wondering if anyone else has the same thoughts as I do in that where I live if you have a chrome handgun I think of it as a paperweight piece of $###, and he must be from the hood toting a saturday night special. No pun intended here to anyone.

Yeah, I don't like those guns. Anything made by Bryco, Jennings, Cobra, Jimmenez, and a few others. I call em ghetto blasters. Im sure there cast from some cheap zinc alloy. Those guns definitely need a warning label on the slide saying use at your own risk.

A guy I used to work with had me take a look at his jennings .380 because it wasn't holding the striker and when you released the slide it would chamber one and automatically fire, pretty scary stuff really. But it was cheap almost pot metal type stuff, god awful to say the least. Nonetheless, it was indeed a ghetto blaster, lmao.

Some people do not grasp the age old concept that "you get what you pay for". Firearms are NOT like any other tool or object wherein buying the cheapest one warrants a serviceable tool. Purchasing a firearm on the basis that it is the cheapest one available will yield poor results.
I have had this conversation with many people over the years. I stress that cheap guns are often cheap in EVERY aspect. One is better off saving a little extra coin. There are, however, guns made with quality that are priced less than their competitors, but there is a threshold of cheap that is garbage.
Remember...if you know NOTHING about a particular firearm or reputation, research is simply a click away. Fortunately, we have at our finger tips the knowledge of all mankind linked together, server by server, across the globe.

So all the chrome plated 1911's out there are crap and carried by gang-bangers? Or does chroming provide superior protection to bluing and other less abrasion resistant coatings?

Your opinion is just that, and worth what it costs. I like a dark finish on some guns, and a bright finish on others. I'm not even going into the whole quality issue thing. I have a polished nickle finish on my S&W Model 19. It's beautiful. It that a "paperweight piece of s###"? I think not, Watson. Frankly, a shiny 1911-type is a beautiful piece of work.
Yea, I think I WILL get into the quality thing. There are good guns and bad guns and all types of finishes on both. A Chevy 'Vette painted s*** brown is still a hot number and a Volkswagen Beetle painted candy apple red still won't get out of its own way. The finish does not make the gun. That's a VERY superficial judgement.

Yep.
A bright chrome Python, Model 19, Colt 1911 or first generation SAA is a paperweight. Or hard chromed Les Baer SRP, or a Nighthawk...definite paperweight.
Brilliant observation.

Your confusing chrom with nickel plated. A brushed chrom plating looks exactly like a stainless steel gun it's not the mirror finish that most nickel plated "pimp" guns have.
While I don't think that mirror finished gun looks nice an I wouldn't buy one not all of them are trash. I personally think that engraved guns are ugly but some very fine firearms have been engraved.
