Arrow Talk me into/out of this, 96 inox for security six.

My friend that sold me my security six (4" blued 357) wants it back. I love it, my only wheel gun, made the year I was born. He didn't really want to sell it, but he needed cash. I told him if I got rid of it, he'd have the first shot at it.

He's offering a full size Beretta 96 inox (.40 cal) stainless as a straight up trade. If it's like the rest of his gun collection, it's as close to perfect as used guns get. I know the Beretta is worth more, about $500?

I said I'd think about it. So, talk me into, or out of this deal.

I'd make that trade all day long. And I'm a bigger fan of Ruger revolvers than I am Beretta's.

Trade. And pics. Of a hot chic, the gun, or both.

Arrow If I do it, I'm just gonna get a GP100.

If I do that, I'm just gonna trade/sell it to get another security six or GP100 in .357. I want a 6" stainless model though, seems like a lot of hassle if I have close to what I want. If the beretta isn't in excellent condition, I might turn it down. I at least want an upgrade out of the deal.

Take the trade with the condition that if he dies first you get the gun in the will . It's a friend. Depending on the specifics of the INOX, it could be worth way more than $500. Older U.S. INOXs are built better than the new. The made in Italy versions are more desirable due to fit and finish.

I'm not a 40 S&W fan so I'd say no trade or ask him what else he's got. I'm nt sure a 96 Inox is as popular as the Security Six or GP100 so you should be under the impression that the a LGS won't do a straight up trade for that gun.

Me either..
If it was a 92 I'd be all over it...

DS it looks like you love the security six.
Being made in your birth year gives it sentimental value as well.
Keep it.

I say he can go buy another revolver, unless you really want that 96 and a 6" wheelgun later on.

I don't know about the "deal" but I have owned an older 96F Beretta for many years and shot it quite a bit.

They're quality guns that have good and bad points.

The good? Well, it is one of the softest recoiling 40s out there. I have found only the HK USP40 full-size is softer. The 96F is also very reliable...mine has never jammed or stopped at all - totally reliable. I also like it's long sight radius that is a plus at the range. For a range 40...the 96F is a very good choice. It is also a well made gun that is easy to clean and work on and mags are easy to find. Its pretty accurate, too. I can hit what I want with the 96F most of the time. Any holster and grips made for the 92F will fit the 96F...that is also in it's plus category.

The bad? Its kind of heavy and think and chunky. Not a good CCW pistol at all. The safety is way up on the slide and is not the easiest to flick off without shifting your hand quite a bit. If you have medium or small hands..this is not a good choice at all and you'll struggle with it's thickness.

But, if you want a soft recoiling 40 for open carry or range or home defense...it is not a bad choice at all.

So if you like it and need a pistol like this...go for it.
