Springfield got schooled

This is a discussion on Springfield got schooled within the Non-XD Handguns forums, part of the Other Handgun Talk category; With 2 XDms, an XDsc, and a 1911 RO, I'd say I'm a Springfield beotch. Kinda torn between a Shield, and waiting for the XDs...

Bard,

FYI - I have lurked here for the past couple of years, but haven't had anything to contribute so didn't register. Seeing S&Ws execution on the Shield launch got me sort of steamed at Springfield and motivated to make a post. Everything I said is factual, and I stand by it. If that makes me a troll in your eyes, then so be it - I think I can handle that just fine. On the other hand, Springfield fanboys like you see the world through rose-colored glasses and just can't handle any negative observation about your favored brand. Objectivity is a problem for you...

One thing I forgot to mention - when at SHOT in January, I stopped by the S&W LE booth (different than the main S&W area). One of the employees there told me that S&W was bringing out a single stack M&P for the CCW market, but pulled the pistol at the last minute from being shown or announced at SHOT. The amazing thing is how they were able to keep a lid on it until about 2 weeks ago when early fotos surfaced. I plan to purchase an M&P Shield - this will be my first S&W product.

The Shield isn't exactly a single-stack, more of a midway point between single and doublestack... Shall we call it the 1.5 stack?

Picked up a Shield 9mm today...

Just felt too good in the hand. Has a little longer grip than my XDSC, but is more comfortable to wear IWB due to thinness. Didn't have time to shoot today, but plan to put 150-200 thru it tomorrow!

Breaks my heart that Springer doesn't have one of these skinny CC pistols. While I'm sure the XDS will be awesome when it finally ships, S&W is going to pick up a ton of business in the interim. Plus, I think there are a lot more 9mm and .40 cal fans out there than 45 ACP - especially in carry guns. The real question is when 9/40 XDS pistols will be actually shipping and available.

IMO Im thinking SA had too much of the harley davidson approach like harley did back in the day with the 1yeah plus waiting list... they hyped em up but made you wait.. while s&w beat em with their own game saying ok .. heres what we have and there is no waiting list, you can get one TODAY! With accessories! ... fyi Im NOT a harley davidson fan either ( ive worked on way to many of em, I ride Honda I hardly ever work on it) oh and yeah.. I got one too ...

But it isn't. The Shields are the first M&Ps close to single stack. M&P 45 is a true double

Even the grip is fugly, the overall gun reminds me of my younger brothers Taurus 24/7

No thanks

I have to agree with you on this one. I really just don't like the jointed trigger....

You're responding to spam.

BTW--you are dead on with your assessment of S&W completely stealing SA's thunder, and showing them how to properly release a pistol. Don't let the whiny SA koolaid slurpers get to you.

Meh, I'll wager I'd MUCH rather have my PM9's size and trigger pull.

a pocket 9 won't get any better.

I compared the numbers last night, my CM-9 is smaller in every way than the Shield. I may just keep saving for ammo and the 938 and the XDs-45, I'm not seeing a reason to get the shield other than the thumb safety which the Kahrs don't need due to thier long trigger pull.
It looks like the XDs and Shield will be more in line with the Taurus 709 in size/weight than the true pocket pistols like Kahr and Kel-Tek.
