To use your example, they buy a Porsche because they can tell people they have a Porsche. Some people (we call them a-holes where I'm from) want a Glock not because of the performance, but because they hear and see it in music, movies, TV, etc and they never take the time to even try any other gun.

And some a-holes (we call them that up here, as well) buy other brands of guns simply because they like to passive-agressvely bash certain brands.

Not everyone that owns Glock bashes other pistols.
Many of us also own XDs, 1911s, SIGs and others.
However, if saying that your own personal long term relationship with a Glock has been good, makes one a "fanboy" so be it. What is in it for me to lie and say my Glocks have been troublesome? LOL
I just get annoyed with the 20-somethings with no manners (and possibly very little shooting experience and limited gun ownership) that say "brand X sucks and brand Y rules." What nonsense.
Now, there are certain brands that are iffy and ones to avoid but the majority of the polymer pistols out there are pretty good guns that will most likely give you good service. Any of them can crank out a lemon. Hell, there are people on some web boards that complain about their Wilson, Les Baer or HK pistols so they ALL can make a lemon now and then.
If YOU got that lemon, well...that is unfortunate but it does not mean that Glock, SIG, Kimber, HK, Springfield or Beretta suck. That just does not hold water, sorry.
Also, if one brand does not fit your hand...that too does not mean that brand sucks or is substandard.

i love to see 'em pour out of the woodwork
Brick,
i just love to see 'em pour out of the woodwork, esp with it not me fffg w/them! i will try to spin up the .40 cal guys on my own - even that i blame somewhat on the glocks too..."glock 40, glock 40, glock 40!" seems like all that glock and .40 cals came along at the same time and became 'a perfect storm' of 'taking over' back in the day!?
I know 2 glock guys, the one i mentioned and another that is a bud and he HATES a decocker, he will flinch and get the willies around anyone hitting a decocker on a DA semi-auto. i personally 'like' DA (1st shot) and like decockers...so, i don't know if that goes along w/glock guys or not too?
any glock guys HATE decockers out there too?

I don't necessarily hate decockers, but I am not a fan of DA/SA. I prefer a consistent trigger pull for every shot. So, I guess you could say that I am not a fan of decockers, as they tend to come on SA/DA pistols...
However, you won't find me badmouthing Sigs, Berettas, or the numerous other pistols out there with them...

I agree. Between my 1911's, SIG, XD, Ruger, Kahr, etc I do not see any one beating any other one based on conjecture. But the "glock is the only solution crowd" tends to wear on me. But a lot of that can be traced to the shooter and ethics.

fair enough...i guess maybe it's just me b/c i feel just a little 'safer' w/a DA over a striker fire for 'carrying' (i do carry my XD45C fine and i'm not LEO), BUT i DO LOVE a striker fire going up against a glock guy in a tac match and when the XD came out, i RAN back to the range to shoot against that 'get a glock' AH guy running his psuedo IPSIC type local indoor range tac matches (he owned the range). beat his assss too, but it was tuff beatign him w/a 92F many yrs prior. if i heard him say 'G-A-G' once, i heard him say it 48+ times...those 1911 were FTF, FTE too (i blame their ammo though) and everytime it was "G-A-G!".
if i were LEO, i wouldn't have a prob carrying a glock service weapon.

I'm not sure how many times I'll have to type this out, but I am not bashing Glock. How many times do I have to say that they're probably good guns based on what I've read (I will try one out at my range next week). I'm not bashing the guns, but I am bashing the ridiculous mentality that there is only one gun suitable for a person to buy. I think you would agree.

my own experience is what makes me dislike the glock. I know they arent all the same but im not a fan. My buddy got one on a military discount and it was his first hand gun. I picked it up and it was extremely uncomfortable and i couldnt get a constant grouping with it. (And yes its ugly like sarah). He ended up selling it the following week.
And i have heard some glocks have polymer internal parts..... Can that be reliable?
But i cant just "bash" on one brand i also dislike Taurus!
Bought my wife a 24/7 .40 grip was comfortable but it was inaccurate and snappy!
Shot my buddies mil pro and wasnt impressed there either.
Also have seen alot of fails online with thier revolvers such as cylinders failing (blowing out) and barrels flying off.
And my brothers friend was with us at the range with his Judge and something happened with the firing pin and when he went to fix it it just fell apart..... Like a gun made of legos

Taurus has a known and easy to document history of hit and miss build quality. Their copy of the Beretta 92 seems to be the only real solid and consistent firearm they have ever made.
However, the same track record cannot be said of Springfield, Glock, S&W, Ruger, HK, SIG, Colt, Kimber or Walther. They have all made their own "Edsels" but not a long history of consistent hits and misses in the QC area like Taurus.
Taurus often has good IDEAS in their guns but the execution and overall build quality of these ideas is not real consistent. Or consistently good.
Taurus runs you about 350-400 bucks. A SIG runs 600-800 bucks. An HK will run you 800-950 bucks. There is a reason for this price structure! LOL
