Glock 19 or Walther PPQ?
Ok guys it is that time again! Time for a new handgun. I have 2 in mind and I can not decide which one to buy and I need your help. This will be an added SHTF piece.
We all know that Glock is reliable and an overall great pistol. I really do not like the feel of the Glock but I did get to try one the other day with different backstraps and it felt a lot better in my hands.
I have heard nothing but great things about the Walther PPQ and I felt one yesterday and boy did it feel good in the hands! Only thing I am unsure is the mag release being different than other pistols and I wonder if that would cause a problem in a SHTF situation.
Anyways the two I am looking at are:
Glock 19
Walther PPQ
Help me decide and give reasons why you would choose one over the other.

I have never shot either but have held both and can say with out a doubt that I would get the Walther. It just feels great in my hand. I wish all guns had the european style release like the Walther they are so much easier to use. Good luck making that choice!!!!

I'm of the opinion that everyone should have a G19. But that's just me.

Wow! These are 2 world class pistols, and you have BIG decisions to make there. I really like the G19 since I have another Glock pistol, and wonder how it could get any better. Would think that you will have more "accessories" and options that you can do and make for the Glock.
On the other hand....if the PPQ feels better in your hand, go that way. Seems a little to me, to be what a BHP would be like if it was striker fired. Everything I have read and heard about it, is that it's the cat's meow.
They cost about the same.
I don't think the mag. release is an issue at all. It's all about training and muscle memory of what happens to be in your hand.
Best of luck, let us know what ya came down on, am sure you will be pleased with either.

I own both and they're both great, but they each have their pluses and minuses. It really comes down to what else, other than as a SHTF gun, you want to do with it.
The Pros for the Glock are obvious in that everything under the sun is available for it. The downside is that it's not ergonomic or naturally pointing, but you can get used to it and train to its pointability. One thing I'll mention is don't automatically assume the Glock is reliable. I bought a 3rd Gen 19 maybe 6-9 months ago and suffered the problem with the extractor that caused stovepipes and erratic ejection. Glock support stunk to put it mildly and "experts" told me it was the ammo, my grip, etc., but oddly enough, a Lone Wolf extractor solved the problem. Glock and the "experts"/fanboys were full of crap.
The Walther PPQ is an awesome machine and I actually prefer the mag release. Every other pistol I own requires me to rotate the weapon to reach the release, but not so with the PPQ. The trigger is outstanding and just perfect which helps to achieve greater accuracy and the gun itself is already very accurate. The ONLY downsides I have with the pistol are that 1) it's a little bigger than the 19 (an insignificant amount), and 2) there still aren't very many holsters to choose from. With how well the PPQ has been selling, I'm confident more holsters will become available, but at this time, you're a bit limited. I've found FNP and XD holsters work okay, but I'd rather have one form fitted for the PPQ.
If only for SHTF/home/range, I'd say go for the PPQ. If also wanting to CC, the edge goes to Glock. If more holsters were available for the PPQ, there would be no doubt that I would say go with the PPQ.

Wow Thanks guys for the awesome feedback! I will be using this for SHTF/home/range.
@cz75luver - you are right I too have to slightly rotate weapon to fully release mag so maybe I will really like the mag release on the PPQ. Not to worried about the accessories as of yet since I will be keeping it at home or taking it to the range in my range bag. I am sure we will see plenty of accessories soon.
@N.E - It does feel better although the larger glock back strap felt a lot better.
@ADA - I am now feeling the same way that a Glock is a must have for any SHTF situation.
So far I am slightly leaning towards the PPQ but I still can not make up my mind. I Havent found a place yet that has PPQ for me to shoot. I wish I could shoot one before I made my decision. There is so much hype around this firearm right now.

Wow, that is quite a conundrum indeed!
I have zero experience with the PPQ (but am interested in it) but have shot Glocks some. I too hated the grip of the Gen 3 Glocks (too big for my hand) but the new Gen 4 grip, which is slightly smaller, fits my hand perfectly! I love it much more and am in fact about to buy a Gen 4 G17.
All the research I've done on the PPQ indicates that it's an excellent pistol. The ambi controls are really appealing to me as well (I'm a lefty). The only thing that would steer me away from the PPQ right now would be that it is a newer gun and needs time to amass a track record of reliability and dependability, whereas we know the record of Glock. Glock accessories are also more plentiful, easily available, and cheaper as of right now (including the 33rd 9mm mags!) compared to PPQ, but I do think the accessories market will catch up to the gun in time.
So for now I'd say go with Glock (by a narrow margin) but I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either one.

@AirForce - thanks for the feedback, but now I am equally torn between the 2 again! LOL God I wish I could just buy both right now!

The Collective will welcome you. "Your technological and physiological likeness will be added unto ours. Resistance is Futile"
Is 1 or 10 pistols ever enough?? That red hot coin burning holes in your pocket?? Go with the Glock, and let that PPQ "mature" with accessories and reputation. It will still be there next season, or the next time you want another.

As the owner of two Glocks (17 & 22), I too was just going to go out and get a G19 for a carry gun.
...until I handled the PPQ at a local store. In fact...I have gone back twice now and handled it just to see if I was not imaging things! LOL
I have been shooting Glocks since 1992 and am now going to skip my third Glock and go with the PPQ.
Why?
Well, when you handle one it will become apparent. It feels like the HK P-30 but is tons cheaper. The trigger is better than either of my very worked over Glock triggers and better than the M&P or XD.
It was as if the engineers at Walther took all of the plastic guns and layed them out on a table and took the good things from all and left out the warts...and all of them have at least one wart.
I did quite a bit of reading and mags and holsters are around and not hard to get, either.
On just about every forum, from SIG Forum to M4 Carbine Forums, there are pages and pages of positive reviews from owners of the PPQ pistol. In fact, I could not find a bad review of the PPQ. It seems to be not only well made and comfortable, but very accurate. Several users had thousands through their PPQs and no failures.
With the recent QC problems that we have seen on 4th gen Glocks and M&Ps...this seems to be a very good route to go.
It might be early to say this, but it is possible that the PPQ is the plasic gun we have all wanted to begin with. Who knew? LOL
