I have to admit, the looks alone are quite appealing (at least to me) I may be willing to give one a try.

I simply have no interest in that pistol at all. It does nothing for me that many others can't do.

I may consider one if they're still around in a couple of years and become more widely available.

Too bad, because yes...it looked really nice but their QC obviously leaves a lot to be desired.
Buy an M&P. XD-9 or G19 and call it good. At least these three will run well.

Not really sure what you have been reading but I have spent quite a bit of time on Steyr Club and Caracal Forum and seen little to no issues with any of the guns in the USA. I bought a Caracal F end of last month and have been nothing but pleased with it, it hangs right there with my Glock's and Browning Hi-Power.
Please explain these QC issues, would love to hear about them.
Like it so much I am also looking at adding a Caracal C to the safe.

Surely didn't expect this as being my first post here. BUT, I MUST disagree. Some background: I've owned some sample of ALL the major manufacturers poly pistols. I also own 2 Caracals-a 'C' model and a 'F' model. Bacically a compact and full size. I'm sure I'm not as experienced as some on this board.
As far as 'complaints' on the Steyr board on the Caracal pistols, they are nonexistent. The ONLY concern with Caracal owners is when will spare parts arrive in the US.
The pistol itself is very well finished. There are zero quality issues that I could find. Mine have been flawless with ANY ammo. I used my compact in a local IDPA match last Saturday. I'm a beginner (only 7 matches) but I did SMOKE about 30 shooters. Some who were in one and two classes above me.
The recoil/muzzle flip on the Caracals is MUCH less than ANY other poly pistol I've shot. The ONLY out-of-the-box striker trigger that can touch or even come close to the Caracal is the Walther PPQ ( I have one). And muzzle flip on the PPQ is a little more pronounced than the Caracal.
And for the record, I have fired and owned an XD, and also have many rounds through a friends XD9SC. And it is a fine pistol. Zero problems. But the Caracal is a much softer shooter.
As far as price, they can be picked up for less than a Glock 3rd Gen, and MUCH less than a Glock 4th Gen. Mags are a little pricey, though.
I just wish people would get out and try to find a Caracal to rent, borrow and then go shoot it before passing judgement on it. It was designed by Wilhelm Bubits: Formerly with Glock and Steyr. Some say that the Caracal is the pistol that Glock should've been. And as far as Glock goes, sure they go bang, UNLESS you have a G19 Gen4!!!! That is meant as kind of a joke, but if you want to see complaints about a pistol head on over to GlockTalk and search Gen4 problems. And yes I own a G19 Gen4, and it has been flawless.
Try a Caracal, you'll love it, or your money back!!

If there is a complaint about parts availability, that ought to really resonate with XD owners!! I hope somebody shows up at our local range with a Caracal, so I can smoke it over. If I like it and can find one at a great price, ftf, in a private sale, I'll acquire one.
One question: Do Caracals utilize trigger connectors, like Glocks, that can be inexpensively and quickly changed out by the consumer?

I have not had my Caracal pistols completely apart like I have my Glocks. The parts list in the manual shows a trigger/trigger bar very similar to a Glock. Instead of a trigger housing like a Glock, a Caracal has what they call an 'anvil unit' that seems to house a connector type part.
I'm sure that it will be some time before any aftermarket upgrades show up for the Caracal. Honestly, the triggers on my 2 out of the box are very good. I see no reason to mess with them. My compact model has proven itself with MANY fmj's & HP's and is now sharing carry duty with my Gen4 G19.

I was NOT "passing judgement" on the Caracal...just telling what I read on the Steyr boards a few years ago. When the first ones showed up on that board...there were many negative reviews.
Too bad, because I too liked the idea of this pistol. It was very much like the Steyr MA-1 but with some refinements.
Like the MA-1 (which surprised me and I really liked it) I would have loved to have tried out a Caracal. The problem? Even here in the 4th largest city in America with a pretty strong gun culture....I have yet to even SEE one of those pistols in a local gun store.
I can rent Glocks, M&Ps, XDs and other pistols all day long around here...but no Caracals anywhere.
Maybe they got the bugs worked out...who knows? I would not know because around here....I NEVER see one. Go to our ranges and everyone is shooting 1911s or Glocks and maybe there is an XD or M&P here and there. Often times, I am an oddball because I show up with a Hi-Power. Never see a Caracal and I am at our ranges quite often.
I wasn't saying they were junk. Maybe they are..maybe not. Time will tell and if I start seeing them show up, but with the 600 dollar price tag, no real track record and no parts available in the US...their marketing people have some work to do.
