If in fact it is a toss between the PPS and XDS, I think for shooters who aren't familiar with the magazine release or haven't given it time to warm up, will appreciate a "normal" magazine release option. So even in the smaller calibers, I bet it still matches the PPS in capacity, it gives a little flexibility for the buyer.

That having been said, the release tends to be a love hate relationship with Walther/H&K. Most people warm up to them and sometimes even prefer them with some practice.

Just an update. I ordered a pps in 40 cal od green at my lgs today. I held one and it is everything I love about walther. Great fit and finish, very ergonomic (for a sub compact), and the trigger felt good. I pick it up next week. Sorry to all the Xds votes, but if I know me, I'll probably have an xds also. Thanks for all the info guys!

Buddy loves his PPS, but on a personal note I cannot wait for the XDs release.

Love my 9mm PPS as it's slim & makes an easy conceal edc. However, the unique mag release can be a PITA sometimes & max 8 + 1 rd mag capacity could be considered skimpy.

My XD40sc is wide (similar to my G4 Glock 26) but higher mag rd capacity & no much greater recoil than my 9mm makes for a fine edc, too. LOL, I own both and CCW based on clothing & situation.

Just an update. Got my PPS the other day. I am happy so far with my purchase. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, not this weekend, but the next I will. Here's some pics. I am not a professional photographer or anything, just iphone pics. still looks sweet though. Came with a different back strap and two mags. 40 cal by the way. Flush mag 5+1 and extended mag plate 6+1. Got the whole sha-bang for $525. not too shabby for a walther.

Sweet man. Word to the wise, shoot it for a few hundred rounds and the trigger will pay you back. They really hit a sweet spot between 200-800 rounds. I have had no issues with mine but I did notice a very definite change at 800 rounds.
