That is some real abuse those guys put the gun through. I have only handle these guns at the FFL dealers place where I do my transfers. He was selling them for under $200 but just couldn't bring myself to spending that on what looks like a tank of a gun. One thing for sure is they aren't going to blow up in your face.

All this talk about them blowing up. I've never heard of a hi point blowing up and hurting someone. I've seen glocks blow up. Anything can go boom if you get some bad ammo.

Funny, my .45 Hi-Point was hitting the same at 25 yds the other day as my XDm. If the Hi-Point was a good concealed carry gun, rather than a brick with a handle on it, I'd have little use for anything else.

Yeah, I have had not seen any Hi Points that I thought was worth two cents. Spend a few extra bucks on a quality gun from Glock, Springfield or Smith & Wesson. It really is stupid to go cheap on something like a firearm.
Ruger SR9 would probably be a good choice and cheaper than the above names. I don't think there quite as reliable but should be if kept in good shape. But would not go with anything less.

Why do you need a 400 dollar range toy. He has a sd gun he wanted a cheap range toy. What does spending his ammo fund get him the hi point won't do.

shot a hi-point once and hated it, just my opinion. I talked to a dealer with a bunch of em and he told me the only people tha came in and bought them were drug dealers and gang bangers lol
HOWEVER for a gun to thrown around and beat up on a ranch or property maybe not a bad start if you don't mind holding an anvil

I've said it before, I'll say it again:
For those who've actually owned a Hi-Point, the response is overwhelmingly positive. Mine shoots, it's been accurate, and I wouldn't cry if it was destroyed/lost/whatever.
Most of the negative feedback I've heard comes from people who have never tried them, or for whatever reason did get an actual lemon and NOT take advantage of their customer service/lifetime warranty.
They're not a "saturday night special"; what they are is ugly, and bulky. But for the price of $200 or less, they're a good home defense weapon.
Now, if there are people here who have actually owned a bad Hi-Point, and not gotten good customer service, I'd LOVE to hear about it. But I suspect they're rare.

they are ugly, heavy, and huge. that being said, a friend of mine bought one in .40 when he knocked his wife up just to have something in the closet. he likes shooting once in a while, but didnt want to buy a 500$ piece. asking price for the gun was about 120$ plus tax (he never consulted me either, or i probably would have atleast convinced him to buy a used glock/similar). i almost laughed when he told me what he paid for it, surely a 120$ gun wouldnt fire. several trips to the range later, the gun was still in one piece, he had only had a few misfeeds, and accuracy was more than acceptable for home defence standards.
for a cheap plinker, a trainer gun for a novice shooter, or just something to have for home defence, it works. i wouldnt buy one, but that doesnt mean it wont fill a purpose for someone else.
my dad also bought one of the 9mm carbines a LONG time ago, still has it. it was the hood ornament for my 4 wheeler when i was a kid. thing got bounced around on my gun rack all weekend. trigger kinda sucks, its heavy, not the most accurate thing ive shot, but it works just fine.

I seriously was looking at Hi-Point first when I got serious about my CCW permit. But even the compact versions aren't really that compact. The .45 XDm I bought from my brother happened to be NIB, he hadn't even filled out the registration card!
With a decent IWB holster, that XDm conceals far better than my .45 Hi-Point. But I still won't give up the Hi-Point; if nothing else, it's the ugly sibling for my carry gun.

Had another thought. Maybe, we should all be packing Hi Points?? I have found myself thinking what pistol to carry, or less missed if I did had to shoot another human being. (is that crazy or what??)
Don't know the exact laws, but if you shoot someone outside your home, your weapon is gonna be confiscated by the police for the duration of an investigation, and or trial of the bad guy you shot.
Hmmm I'd rather surrender my compact $350 Beretta, than my $700 XDm, or LOL, your $1500 1911.
If that's all I had, and it works....I wouldn't even miss $200
