.380s are selling like hotcakes now, so why is the GLOCK 28 still banned from the US? Or is it not? I could have swore that I read a few sites here and there say that they are not legal in the US. Why?

The Glock FAQ: glock_faq_glock_model_info

About halfway down, under the pictures of the practice pistols. Has to do with an ATF points system for importing pistols, is what I learned. Anybody else know anything different?

Found this on CalCCW, posted by "BonoVox as a "Quote" from some other source. Where he got this info, I dunno. He didn't site where he found it.

Quote:
Many of the Glock's parts and sometimes the whole gun are dictated or limited by the BATF's system of "import points". To qualify for import a pistol must score 75 points based on the following system:

Characteristic Points
Length: for each 1/4" over 6" 1
Forged steel frame 15
Forged HTS alloy frame 20
Unloaded weight w/mag (per oz.) 1
.22 short and .25 auto 0
.22 LR and 7.65mm to .380 auto 3
9mm parabellum and over 10
Locked breech mechanism 5
Loaded chamber indicator 5
Grip safety 3
Magazine safety 5
Firing pin block or lock 10
External hammer 2
Double action 10
Drift adjustable target sight 5
Click adjustable target sight 10
Target grips 5
Target trigger 2

For example, here is how the G17 scores: Length (7.28") 5
Weight (24.79oz) 25
Caliber (9mm) 10
Locked breech 5
Firing pin block 10
Double action 10
Target sight 10
Target grips 5
Total 80

Here is how the Glock 26 scores: Length (6.29") 1
Weight (21.87oz) 22
Caliber (9mm) 10
Locked breech 5
Firing pin block 10
Double action 10
Target sight 10
Target grips 5
Target trigger 2
Total 75

Changes and features made to Glocks to comply with the BATF rules:
- all models are imported with a cheap click-adjustable rear sight that is replaced at the factory with the stock sight
- target (grooved) trigger added to compacts & subcompacts
- target grips added to all models (required for the subcompacts)
- due to their caliber, .380 autos (G25 & G2 do not score enough points to be importe

What they said^...Its the same size as a G26 so I don't think many people would buy it anyway.

If it has to do with the ATF I'd say it must be it's not made with American pieces. I've read that for a gun tone legal it has to be made with a certain percent of American pieces. I know it's for sporting rifles like ar and ak. Only thing I could think of cause size and mag capacity shouldn't matter.

They should just import what they can here and have Glock in the United States add the parts to make it a whole gun. Its not like any of those parts are hand fitted anyhow.I wouldn't buy one but I think Glock lovers would gobble them up, especially those that want one of every caliber.

Taurus is a Brazilian Company, but the little TCP 380 is built in Miami, all other models are from Brazil

From my understanding and form what I was told at the Glock Armorer class, most of the above is true. The ATF give "points" for features that are on the gun and these points allow them to "pass" of "fail" the test. Like stated, thats why the compact/sub compacts have "target" triggers so they get more "points". The Glock .380 is available in the US but for LEO only. Im not sure the process in how a LEO can obtain one though. I do know it involves a letterhead from the PD and some other stuff. But like mentioned, its the same size as a G26 so I doubt theres much demand for them minus the Glock collectors and caliber nuts
