Gun shopping for the fiancee
Hey guys. Looking to pick up a handgun for the future wife.
Obviously, I've been letting her shoot different things and get a feel for them, but wanted to consult you guys for advice.
So far, she's determined that the grip on the XD's is too big for her. She doesn't really like the angling on the G19 (but the G26 was ok, oddly). She found the Smith and Wesson SW9VE comfortable, but I'm a little worried about reliability.
Any suggestions on other guns to look at, or recommendations related to the guns above?
Thanks for you help.

Have her try a 1911. Quite popular with women; the slim, single-stack frame, coupled with the controllable recoil that an all-steel 1911 make it a very pleasant shooter.
If you want to consider a revolver, look at a S&W 686 or Ruger GP-100.
What's the planned use for it? Carry, HD, just general range shooting?
ETA--the Glock 26 is an excellent pistol; if you were looking for a prospective carry pistol for her--and she likes it (as it sounds like she does), I couldn't think of a better choice. And as far as the SW9VE goes--they are very reliable pistols. A couple friends bought them for a ridiculously cheap price, just for a truck/trunk, overall beater pistol...they've each put several thousand rounds through them with no issues. Their trigger leaves a bit to be desired, but that can be overcome.

Then I'd really be looking at the G26. I'd still recommend having her try a good 1911, though...possibly a Commander-sized model.

i agree with the 1911 recommendation. Besides, theres nothing wrong with having a 1911 in the ol' collection.

My wife likes her S & W M&P9 with the small backstrap.

I've handled, but not shot the Smith M&P. With the adjustable back strap I think it would be a good fit for a smaller hand.
I did like shooting the Beretta PX4, that would be a candidate.
Stepping up in price, the H&K P2000 fitted with the small backstrap might be an option, albeit more money. My wife has the P2000 with LEM trigger, it makes a smooth transition (as far as trigger feel) from her revolvers. Easy to rack but it's trigger is nothing like the XD/Glock.

Just don't get anything too heavy. That's the first thing out of their purse if it is.

I bought my fiancee a subcompact beretta storm in 9mm. I have the full size 45 and it was her favorite gun so I figured she'd like the subcompact. Smith and wesson is one of the best, why would you be worried about quality?
