As an instructor and also a marriage counselor, the best advice is to take her to a place you trust, put her in the capable hands of a salesperson you trust and then go look at the other things in the store for about 30 minutes. I have heard all sorts of horror stories in my classes about guys getting what they thought was the "right" gun and then it never got carried or used. As for the pink guns, about 50% of the women I know who shoot are insulted by pink guns. When my wife of 38 years got her first gun I followed this advice and it worked out very well. We had been through the shooting of my guns, answered the questions about general shooting and got to where she knew what things to ask and look for. On a side note, I also shoot USPSA and many of the women I see there that are shooting production have M&P's. There is a smattering of others but that is the main one in my club. Good luck - on both the gun and your marriage. Both require a lot of work and are well worth the time.
