Taurus PT 145, any things I should know.
Got through a swap with a good friend. I will continue to carry my XDm9C. I was thinking of using the PT145 as a house gun or my wife was eyeing it to carry. I know taurus's may not have the best rep. How do I find out if it is one of the newer models? Any ammo issues?

While working at a gun store last summer I got some experience with these.
Of the four or five I remember selling, two came back with sight problems (mostly coming loose) and one for not being accurate at even 20 feet.
Two that I sold were to friends and I got the chance to shoot them at the range. Both of those shot very well and were even pretty accurate at defense distance. Short barrel though, and it muzzle-flips pretty hard.
Another one or two sold and I never heard any more from the owners.
I liked them. They were nice compact .45acp handguns with a really good looking design and fit the hand very well.

I keep hearing about the "issues" surrounding Taurus, but I use one for my everyday carry gun, only because there is no true subcompact XD in a .45ACP. It takes a little getting used to, but I have found that it is pretty accurate from a reasonable distance. I have never had any problems with it from a reliability standpoint.
Mine is a 3rd gen model and has the integrated rail. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

If you start experiencing nosedives exchange your magazines under warranty. There are known problems with PT145 magazines. Mine will run ball ammo really well buy HP rounds are "hit or miss" (pardon the pun).

Check out taurusarmed.net for more info. My PT-145 is at Taurus getting fixed. I have had the light primer strikes issue with it ever since day one right out of the box. It is (or perhaps, was... not sure if they've corrected the issue with the newer ones) not an uncommon issue from what I've read on their forum. Seems like they are also having issues with their mags now, as there are tons of threads over there about faulty mags. Though I never had an issue with mine. At least they have a lifetime warranty, not sure if the warranty transfers over with change in ownership though.

Had mine for a couple of years. had it sent back 3x. still noy right. first it wouldn't shoot straight, then slide would stay open while shooting. after 2x back for that i finally saw what the problem was(slide catch wedging between frame and slide) then traded it on my xd. one of my better choices. never had a problem with their revolvers.

For what it's worth, I like mine so far. I bought it new about a year ago, and the only problems I've had were due to one bad magazine (which I download to 9 rounds and the problem goes away).
I am not a Taurus fan, and frankly I still don't trust this thing 100%, but I've put a few hundred rounds through it and I can't make it malfunction. I vowed to never own a Taurus, but I bought it because it was what I was looking for: a subcompact 45 with a high magazine capacity. The fact that it was reasonably priced was icing.
I started a "what do you think about the PT145" thread on the 1911 forum, fully expecting to get flamed. I was shocked when the responses I got were all pretty positive. My conclusion: the newest generation of Taurus Millenium pistols seem to be pretty well made.

From what I've seen and shot, the best Taurus guns are the Beretta clones the 92 AFS, 99 in 9mm, and the 100, 101 in .40. The issues seem to mostly come from the polymer pistols. I've shot the 92 and it seems to be a pretty nice, well made, gun. The PT 845 's I've looked at though, had some problems with inserting and ejecting mags. But those were part of the first batch that came out, so that might have been corrected by now.

While I never had any malfunctions with my pt-145 as Tally said I could not hit anything with it...horrible. My pt-145 was an older model hopefully you got one of the newer ones with a bit better reliability in the acurracy dept.
