Taurus PT92 or XD-9?
Hey guys, I've narrowed down my next gun buy and I can't decide between the 2. If anyone has experience with either of them, would you be so kind as to give me the pros and cons of each one. Thanks a bunch!

First off, Welcome to the fourm. There is a lot of differances between both of the pistols you are wanting. I have owned both and I still own a XD9. Naturally the 92 will weigh more and will be about an inch longer. The XD9 will hold 16+1 ( 18+1 if you get Mec-Gar mags like me ) and the 92 will come 2 17 round mags. The last time I shot a 92 was probably 10 years ago when I owned a PT99 ( same as the 92 just with ajustible rear sights ) I liked the gun and never had any problem with it. Alot of people will tell you go with the XD, I say find a range and rent them both and see wich one feels right in your hands and wich one shoot better for you. Good luck, Dave

Thanks for the welcome, I've been a member since 2004 but took a long hiatus after I sold my 40. I actually called the guy I sold my 40 to today and hes going to see if he still has it. If he does, maybe I'll be reunited with my first gun.

I presently own a xd 40 and bought a Taurus pt917cs, for my 9mm. The 917 is a pt92 that is 4" instead of 5". I love the Taurus, could have gotten the xd9 for about the same price. I love the XD, but wanted something a little different at the range. If your looking for HD, I would go with XD, I think the SA/DA features of the Taurus could cause issues in a stressfull home invasion situation. Just my .02, but you really can't go wrong with either.

XD9/pros:
-great feel
-very reliable
-simple operation
-Springfield customer service is highly regarded
XD9/cons:
-I'm not crazy about the sights
PT92/pros:
-replica of beretta 92, which is highly regarded.
-no polymer frame
PT92/cons:
-more complex operation than XD
-it's a Taurus.
just my opinion....

The PT92 is one of Taurus' best guns, a good shooter and one of a short few by Taurus that I would trust (experience). It's all but a Beretta. I have owned and shot both and would choose the XD myself, however.

I agree with everything here, other than it's a Taurus. I have owned two so far and have had no problems with either and have saved myself a couple hundred bucks on each purchase. For the Taurus haters out there, see Taurus PT92 - Gunpedia, Taurus bought the Beretta plant and use the same machinery to make the pt series of guns. If you want your gun to say Beretta then that's what you need, but a Tauri of any PT style is a fine handgun with a lifetime warranty at a much better price.

My first gun and still have is my beloved taurus pt92 if you want a well priced good gun for your self its up there with the rest.... and for the people that say taurus is not reliable I have put a little over 10,000 rounds through this girl only a hand full of ftf but i limp wrist some times late in a range trip and she still loves me starting show a little rust on the frame around the safety but thats my fault
both guns are very reliable but the Pt gets a little heavy by the end of the day

I had a PT100 which is the same gun in .40 cal. It worked perfectly and Taurus has a lifetime warranty which they stand behind. It didn't have the best trigger but it always worked and it always shot straight. I have a XD .45 and a XDm .40 now. In my opinion, the Springfield XD is a MUCH better gun.

When I compared a PT92 side by side with a M92...there really was no comparison. The PT92 was more roughly finished, the trigger was terrible in comparison to the M92...I could go on, but I think you get my point.
They be made at a fomer Beretta plant, on Beretta machinery...but the quality of the pistols is not the same, period.
Oh--and before anyone tries to paint me with the "Taurus Hater" brush--when I compared a PT92 with a M92, the PT92 was mine; the M92 my friend's. I'd picked up the PT because I'd read a bunch of the same stuff given above...and boy oh boy, was it wrong. I ended up trading off the PT for a used Beretta not long later, and have never regretted it for a second (well, I regret buying into the "Taurus is just as good as..." line of horse poop and not buying the Beretta in the first place, but one lives and learns).
