Quick over view...
Wanted a second carry piece, my full size XDm won't cut it. Besides I don't shoot it very well. So I sold it to my brother.
My research brought 3 finalists the Kahr PM9, Glock G36, and Sig Compact .357 sig or 9mm. The Kahr is just too expensive so it's out.
After speaking with my buddy in Maryland, which i'm moving to in about a month or so. I learned theres almost no chance of getting a Carry Conceal Permit. Unless you have a job that puts you at risk on a constant basis such as Law enforcement or Doctors, Lawyers, etc... You can't simply apply, have background check, and get approved like here in Florida. Good thing i'm applying for an LE position , but i'll wait until I get the job and see what they allow for backups before I decide on my next CCW.
So I'm sorta at square one so to speak, so i'm bringing out all 4 of my top choices. I'm looking at possibly using it in IDPA or similar competition shooting.
In no order of favoritism...
1. Glock G36 w/ Factory night sights ( feels good in my hand, nice trigger feel, balanced, seems great for CCW, just not sure about possible competition shooting.)
2. XD 9mm Sub Compact Bi-tone ( I love my XD.40SC, its clone in smaller caliber, most cost efficient ammo, works with my current holsters, not sure about competition shooting)
3. XD .45 Compact Dark earth polymer & Melonite ( Feels alot like my XD.40SC in hand, trigger feel is ok, it's a .45, still small enough to use as a CCW, not sure about competition shooting.)
4. Sig Sauer P250 Compact w/ factory night sights .357 sig or 9mm (My black sheep of the group, feels great in my hand, like the trigger feel alot, designed to change calibers easy, seems like a good fit for CCW and or competition.)
So what to choose... What to choose...

If it's strictly for CC and or backup a g36 would be sweet due to it's size and weight. For more than that the mag capacity would be a downer. Maybe one of these day.....

Either get the one that points most naturally for you now, or wait until you find out what you may be carrying as an LE and get then the closest configuration to that.

i'm in a similar situation, about to get a job here in PA as an armed guard, i don't know the logistics 100% but i'm pretty sure i'll be issued a gun and holster for normal carry, and that secondary backup is allowed but has to be provided, i also have an xdm 4.5 9mm, although i shoot spot on with it (one of the most accurate and softest shooting guns i've ever handled), it will simply not work as my ccw back-up weapon...... i was looking into the glock 26 and or the xdsc, interested to see what others have to say..... good topic and might make my xdm up for grabs sucks i can't post in the for sale section!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd research for a used Kahr PM9.
I found mine for $550 with night sights.
Or perhaps a used HK USPc w/LEM, P2000sk w/LEM, or P30.
Of those you listed, the Sig 250 has the best trigger, a little long but butta smooth.
I owned one for about a month, just didn't do it for me.
And the conversion kits will run you around $330 each.
The XD45 Compact is a great gun, but costly to feed, I owned one for about a year.
The G36 will have the same issue.
The 357sig round can be hard to find and also expensive.
I carried an XD9sc for 2 years.
The grip angle fit my hand much better than the Glock 26 I carried before it.
9mm is much more plentiful and cheaper than the other calibers mentioned.
If possible try to rent all your options and see what fits in your hand.
Also see what feels more comfortable for you as far as recoil.
Good luck.......1LL

Well since you already have an XD40sc I'd probably nix the XD9sc just on account of wanting variety. Do they make 9mm conversion barrels for the XD40sc? Might want to look into that.
The G36 is an outstanding carry piece, but is not ideal for pistol games. (same can be said for the Kahr PM9)
XD 45c probably bridges the activities you are interested in best - competition shooting as well as concealed carry. The swappable magazine sizes are nice, etc. Trigger can be cleaned up with an aftermarket kit if desired. Downside, of course, is .45ACP ammo. But you'd be able to shoot Major with it.
The SIG P250 is also capable of bridging the 2 activities, and keeps it in the 9mm category. However, even though the P250 is made for multiple configurations, it's not that cost effective to do it. For instance, Sig's new P250 2Sum package ( SIG SAUER, the P250 2SUM, TWO GUNS IN ONE : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com) runs around $700. So we're creeping up to Kahr-esque levels of cost.
Personally, I'd play gun games with your XD40sc and get a PM9 or G36 for carry-only. Or perhaps the Sig P250 since its novelty intrigues me - but again, you're spending more for it.

You know my reasons for recommending the G36...so just buy it and be happy.
