Mosin Nagant headspacing question.
So, just this week I purchased my first Mosin. It's a 1943 91/30, all matching numbers and has not been counter bored. I've done as much research as possible on headspacing. Now the question is if I purchase a no-go gauge do I have to take out the extractor? Can you just slip it under the extractor and check that way? I really don't want to be pounding on things that I'm not completely familiar with yet. I also know that they make coin style head spacers, but I don't want to wait 4-6 weeks to shoot.
Thanks for any help.

Get the coin gauges, no need to take out the extractor . Plus when you go searching for the M44 and you will trust me, at shows or gun shops you can just pop them in and test them there Check okiegauges.com, I bought the whole set, but you can buy them individually.

I had a different method. My approach (I don't recommend it) was just shoot it and see if it go KABOOM and stuff. It go Bang instead. OK, good.

I would do the same if the rifle appeared in good condition.

While certainly not the safest method, I too have done the same thing

It must be our trust of fine Russian craftsmanship that causes us to do such things
I did the same, with a few words of caution ... Dial 911 if I blow myself up.

I went ahead and ordered a no go gauge from midway. With my luck, it would blow up in my face.
