Glock's factory in Smyrna

I was talking to some people about an unrelated topic and someone said that Glocks are made in Smyrna. Now as far as I've known Glocks aren't actually made there but Smyrna may make some of the frames but all the slides are actually made in Austria. Perhaps they are just assembled in Smyrna. Then someone else said they heard a rumor that Glock expanded and now all parts are made in Smyrna. Does anyone know if thats true?

My brand new 2009 Glock 27 says Austria on it....
I thought the Georgia facility was a distribution center.

I read somewhere that the newer slides ( not quite as shiny as the previous slides ) were being made here in the US.

Some frames are made in the US plant, but the slides & barrels are made in Austria, then shipped across the boarder to Switzerland so they can be Tenifer treated where that process is legal. Tenifer is not legal here in the US nor Austria.

What I had read about slides being made or treated here, was that they would have to use a different process to meet EPA standards, hence the different look and feel to some of the slides. I've only had a few of the different finish. You need to have the two side by side to really tell.

I live in Smyrna, and I have actually been to the GLOCK armorer's class at the US headquarters. Nice group of people.

The glock frames and other small parts are manufactured in Smyrna. The slides and select metal parts are manufactured in Austria and then metal treated elsewhere. This is because the metal treating, the Tennifer, uses chemicals and a process that the EPA doesn't like. The process would require too many hoops to jump through to make it viable to be done here.

Recently, several Austrian manufactured GLOCKS made it in country so GLOCK could keep up with the demand.

The treatment actually has little to do with the feeling or look of the slides. The tenifer is a metal treating process that uses cyanide (if I remember correctly) to treat the metal before a final finish is applied over the treated metal. You are right about the EPA standars thing though. I believe the differences in finishes may have to do with the batches the slides were finished in.

But I could be wrong, I am good at being worng.
