Which 1911 to buy....

Ok...here's the deal:

I want to get a slim(er) 45ACP for some summer carry. I already have the XD 45ACP and use it now for everyday CCW.

I don't want to invest a zillion dollars into it to "make it shoot, or to make it shoot better", I just want it to do it's job out of the box.

I would prefer a 4" barrel.

I want something that will allow upgrades down the road should I want to do that, but I am not looking to want to do that at the moment.

I want to stick to less than $800 out the door.
=================

So far I have shot the Kahr P45 which I was all hot and bothered about....but the recoil left a bit to be desired. Nothing I don't think I can't get used to...but do I want to....

I have shot a Kimber Pro Carry (not the HD) and loved it....wondered if the HD would be that much of an improvement in muzzle control with the tad bit extra weight....

Love the SA line of guns but not sure if I can pick one up for my price range....

So, guys, help a potential new 1911 guy figure out his choices given my standards. So many choices....so little time and money!

thanks!

I'll be getting the Taurus 1911 this year, assuming the April ship date is real this time. Of course, it's a full size, not the 4".

You should definately be able to find a Kimber, Colt or SA in your price range if you look used.

For $800, you can get the Taurus, a quality holster, gun belt, plenty of ammo, all out the door.

The link is for the 3 inch model and I want something with a 4 inch barrel at the moment, but I am not ruling our the 5 inch models completely.

What is the difference between internal and external extractor except for the obvious?

double-tap
I know what a shooting double-tap is, but is that a model of another 1911?

thanks for the input guys. Unless the Taurus comes out to where I can see some reports on it, or shoot one (even better), I think I have narrowed it down to either a Kimber or Springfield....

Several come to mind. The SA Light Weight Champion, or if your prefer the comfort of a double action style, the Para LDA Tac S. Both are 4" and in the price range you have. Kimber makes a nice pistol and I have two of them, but wil not support them any longer untill they change their attitude on supporting the action pistol shooting sports.
