Rock Island Armory 1911?
I got an XD 45 service with thumb safety. I love it. It fits my big hands. While it beat out the Springfield GI in comfort, it was not by that much. With that in mind, I'm in the market for a 1911. I really want a bare bones classic 1911. It will be used as a base gun, that I may or may not upgrade later(first 1911). It will be the 1st 1911 of what I hope to be many. I already know about the Springfield GI series, and Im just considering the other options out there(plus the RIA is less$). SO does anyone own, or have any info on RIA?
Thanks

The RIA is a good base "no frills" pistol. But the Springfield is the better upgrade gun.

If your looking for a builder 1911.. its not a bad one to go with..
If you want someone nice right off the bat... Go with a Springer or better

If you are considering a RIA ... get the Tactical version ... will save you much in the way of upgrades later on.
I bought the GI and found out I need the beavertail ... ouch.

Approx 10 yards offhand WWB
I like it. New sights are my next investment.

If Im not mistaken, STI contracts their Spartan 1911 with RIA. I have a Spartan and its a REALLY great shooter!
I believe that RIA makes the gun and incorporates STI small parts and then STI inspects them before they are shipped.

I have an RIA GI, I love it. Accurate and never had a problem. I got mine new for $399.

If you get a bare bones RIA and hold it in one hand then hold the SA GI in the other, you'll feel the difference. The RIA feels cheaper, if that isn't a problem for you then go for it.
