My Durafil / Duracoat experience (1978 CZ-75) Pic heavy!

I posted some pics on the CZ forum but I thought some people on here might be interested in my experience with the Durafil and Duracoat products.

First a little history. I bought this 1978 CZ-75 off Gunbroker earlier this year. It was well worn and had been parkerized by the previous owner. I'm pretty sure they chose this finish in part to hide the pitting in the metal. Anyway, I wasn't happy with the finish so I started toying with the idea of having it refinished. Here's the pistol when I recieved it:

After much thought I decided to try Lauer Weaponry's Durafil product. Here's my CZ after many hours of stripping, sanding, cleaning, Durafil, and then final sanding:

This my rig for holding the parts during the Duracoating process:

After Duracoat:

I let the Duracoat sit overnight, then baked it @ 170 degress for 50 minutes. Here's a shot before reassembly:

And finally fully reassembled:

I must say that I was extremely pleased with the results. The Durafil product did an excellent job filling the pitting. I also found the Duracoat product to be somewhat forgiving and easy to use. If anyone is curious about the color, I used a mixture of 10 parts HK Semi-gloss black, 2 parts Gun Blue, and 1 part hardener. I plan to allow another few weeks for the finish to fully cure then I'm going to have me some fun at the range!

You did a great job on that!

Looks great right now. I know how difficult taking apart and putting back together a CZ-75 is, you get respect just for that task . Nice work!

I'd really like to see it after a year and a few hundred rounds though. I really haven't seen DuraCoat last too well unless it was a safe queen. It usually is just too dang thick for tight tolerances.

I got those from a guy in Thailand off ebay. I kinda took a chance but it was a smooth transaction. They seem to be well made.

What was your process for removing the old finish and getting it down to the bare metal?
