Bolt Gun Pics - .223 Both
I thought I'd snap a quick pic of my p-dog guns.
Top is a Rem 700 SPS varmint with a Weaver Classic 6-18 dot reticle scope on it, EGW base and Bell and Carlson stock. This will be my primary gun, the trigger it turned down to about 2 lbs.
Bottom is the lowly Howa 1500 bull barrel, bought as a barreled action with a Timney trigger and a Hogue full-bed stock. This will pull double duty as a coyote gun so I kept it short and trim. Scope is a Burris fullfield 2 w/Sunshade.
Both are sub-MOA, the load i ended up with averages less than 1/2" @ 100 yds with the Rem and is more like .7" with the Howa for 3-shot groups. The Howa can do better with its own load but I didn't want to bother with more than one load per caliber.
Pic is awful because the light is awful. Sorry.

Those are pretty nice. I am interested in building a rig like that also. I am on a budget so I am going to use a Savage/Stevens 200 in .223.

Very nice !!!
I am also looking to build a bolt gun in the not to distant future, and have been looking at the REM 700 as a build platform.
Have you bedded the action / Floated the barrel on either of these ??

I have not bedded either gun, as both stocks have full-length aluminum bedding systems in them. The B&C stock may be bedded at some point just around the lug, since it's cut out a little large to accommodate oversized lugs that some folks like to put on their guns. They're both pretty accurate as-is. Both barrels are floated due to the stock designs.

Nice guns, I see you decided to get a Nikon D60.

I did indeed - is there a file tag or something you're looking at to tell? I've only gotten about 15 minutes of playtime with it. I snapped this pic on auto just before I shoved the guns into my rifle bag, about 10:30 last night in a very dimly lit room.

I wish .223 was not $10 a box. I would love to have a Savage.

Roll your own, man. That's what I started doing. Buying everything brand new costs me about $.30/round, but I can reload for about $.15, using premium bullets (Hornady V-Max in this case). Even with $300 or so invested initially in a press, dies, etc., reloading saves $$ pretty quickly.

nice looking rifles, gotta love those howa's. they are too often overlooked, they shoot great, are of high quality (much better than any savage and better than current remingtons too), shoot excellent, and are very cheap (atleast IMO). if your looking for a sub $500 gun that will shoot as good and have the quality of ones costing twice as much... tikka T3 lite, or howa 1500.
