Sig features I would like SA to pick up.

I was looking at some videos and articles on the Sig P220 and it looks like a great pistol. One feature that caught my eye was the ability to purchase upgrade kits that come with a new slide/barrel and mag. This allows you to up or downgrade in cal. from 9mm threw .45 cal. How great would it be to be able to order this kind of package from Springfield directly? I think so.

It's not worth it, to be honest Cali and NY will if they haven't already ban it all together!!! Second the cost of the new slide and barrel will be with a 100-120.00 price range of a whole new gun. Also there is a lot of stress put on a frame from a .45ACP than a 9mm. Also you own let's say three calibers of the SIG 9mm, .40 caliber, and .45acp now you and your friends go to the range. Your friend wants to shoot the 9mm and you want to shoot the 45acp? problem only one frame so you must wait for each other to finish. Or let's say your frame cracks, if you had bought three separate guns you would still have the two guns left. Since you only have the one frame you now have the three useless guns while your frame is getting fixed!!!

Jeez negative nancy.

$350 is a far cry from $600, so it's a bigger price break than you think. Unlike the Sig 250, each model of the XD frame wasn't designed to handle the different loads. Could the XD frame pull it off? I think so, but SA would design a whole different gun before offering exchangeable slide/barrel conversions.

hum

Sounds like by the description given by the Op he is talking about the 250 and not the 220. Are they not valid points???

The other thing about the P250 that people don't factor in is that evey new caliber conversion requires the purchase of new magazines. So if you get 9mm, 40cal, and 45, you will need three sets of mags.

Additionally, the P250 can also swap grip sizes between full size, compact, and subcompact, which all have their own specialized magazines.

Nine different varieties of magazines, and they aren't cheap.

By the time you get finished collecting the whole set, you may as well have bought separate guns.

I agree.
Plus this way a person can keep a dedicated home protection night stand weapon as well as a carry piece. Seriously, most people who will buy and spend the dough on a Sig 250 are going to own several firearms.
If someone who is not into handguns buys one with the "swapping" opption, I imagine it will stay one size and one caliber most of the time.

IMHO the 250 is an expensive gimmick. It also is DA only, and feels like a toy. But that's just my $0.02...

While I haven't handled one (read about it quite a bit in a couple magazines)... it's an interesting idea, but like many things, seems kind of like a solution to a problem that never really existed. Sure, it's probably a little cheaper than buying separate guns... but you've got 1 gun... which mbpe912 stated many reasons why multiple is better than one. Now as far as conversion stuff like barrels to shoot 9 out of a 40 because it's usually cheaper, I can wrap my head around... or something like a .22lr conversion for a 1911, that makes sense to me. But that much modularity does seem like more of a gimmick than something that's all that practical.

the only benefit this would prove useful for is gun ranges who charge per gun/per shooter.. my local range charges per gun/per shooter, whichever is greater.. so i could buy a gun like this, and take some 9mm and .45 and enjoy a pretty fun trip, and not pay for two guns... but the times this would come in handy are limited at best.. so yeah i like sig, but i dont see this series being all that great..

cheers
