Which .22 Pistol is Closest Thing to XD?

OK, the ammo shortage is bumming me out. Almost anytime I go look for some, all that's left is .22LR. I finally convinced my wife to go shooting with me, but I don't have a comfortable enough supply of 9mm ammo to use up target shooting.

So I want to get a .22 pistol to use for practice sessions - at least until ammo becomes more plentiful.

The question is: which .22 pistol is the closest in grip angle, action, and functionality to my XD? I really don't want to train myself into poor XD shooting habits, so speak up, folks.

The only one I can think of that is "close" would be the Sig Mosquito. It's 90% the size of a full sized sig. Most others are nothing close...IMHO

If you have a 9mm or .40 isn't there a .22LR conversion out there for the XD?? If so, that would make it a true XD . . . in .22LR

Ruger MkIII 22/45 has standard 1911-positioned controls and grip angle, which I find to be pretty similar to the XD's. The width of the grip is much more narrow, though.

You know I got the Walther P22 and the new ones are great little guns to play with. But you must use high velocity ammo but still cheap. I use Walther HV that’s 500 rounds in the box for about $20. It is the closest to a real pistol with the slide and you will enjoy it plus there are tons of toys you can get with it.

I think Advantage Arms sells a .22 conversion kit for the XD. It's a complete top end(slide and barrel) and you retain the frame.

I also find the Ruger MKIII 22/45 the closest to the XD.

My wife and I have great times shooting ours together.

Looks like they only make the conversion kits for 1911s and glocks. no xd's.

There aren't any .22 conversions for the XD, unfortunately.

I have a Walther P22 and love it. I can run Federal bulk ammo through it without any problems, but of course something a bit more upscale like CCI Mini-Mags is always better.

The P22 is a bit small, though, so I definitely second the vote for the Sig Mosquito if you're trying to mimic the XD. It will be closer in size.

A good, fun P22 pistol is definitely a must-have!

I have a buckmark, not anything like my xd. But it is my favorite pistol to shoot. When looking for a .22 i wanted a tack driver and i found it. Ill take the pepsi challenge with ANY .22 pistol anyday. Other than a charger...
