Need help choosing a new gun.
Hey guys and gals, I have a problem and would like some insight. I have narrowed my selections between a XD 9mm dark earth and a taurus 92. I would like to get info from owners of both. Please no bashing taurus, I already have one and it works great.
Thanks

Well, the obvious response is...
Which feels better in your hand?
Which one are you more accurate with?
Do you prefer a hammer or no hammer?
What's the size/weight difference?
My suggestion is that you go to range that rents both, and shoot them side by side.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no where to rent down here. Both feel good in my hand. Size/weight don't really matter.

i wont consider this bashing, but a qualifying statement.
If you have a taurus and like it great. Taurus has its place. If you have money for 2 hand guns (or more), i would obviously go with the XD.
Just a sheer numbers game, by default if nothing else you pick the xd simply for the near glock like reliability and great customer service.
If in your mind you were tied that should be the tie breaker.

I would say the XD. I have owned 1 Taurus and shot a few more and while the pt 1911 was awsome my first .45 pt145 was a P.O.S. that being said I do like some Taurus models alot I finally got to handle a PT911 and I really liked it.all taurus are not crap but Springfeid has a whole whole lot less problems with their guns and if their is one their customer service is one of the best if not the best in the industry whereas taurus cstmr service is 50/50 depending on who you talk to.

Do the semi-autos that Taurus makes have ILS ? If so then I say dont get the Taurus . I have had a Taurus revolver and it was great , but I have seen a lot of people with messed up semisuto Tauruses.
Also , see about what kind of rust resistant treatment is used on the Taurus . XD's are now good with their's.

I would say that if you're wanting a 92 you should go for the real thing and get a Beretta. Taurus certainly can turn out some good pistols, but they seem to have a higher rate of stinkers too. A Beretta model 92 shouldn't cost any more than an XD would either.
Both an XD and Beretta are excellent quality handguns in their own right. But they are quite different, obviously. XD's being stiker-fired, polymer framed, with a grip and trigger safety; while a 92 is DA/SA, metal framed, with a manual safety (of course everyone knows that already). The point I'm trying to make is that they are two very different animals.
Either way you go, handle both if possible, and make your decision based off which one feels better to you.

Ummm, did you start this thread on the Taurus website, too? Just wondering if you were seriously expecting people on an XD website to recommend a Taurus over an XD.
Moving on, the Taurus 92 is one of the best semi-autos that Taurus makes. Fewer reported problems with that gun than most other Taurus models.
Were it my money and these were my two options, I'd go with the XD. Such a solid piece with very, very few disappointed buyers. It's the safer bet, I think.
