SKS Serial numbers

This is a discussion on SKS Serial numbers within the Non-XD Handguns forums, part of the Other Handgun Talk category; I just got a pair of SKSs from InterOrdanance. Where can I find the serial numbers on the SKS. I'm curious to see how close ...

SKS Serial numbers

I just got a pair of SKSs from InterOrdanance.

Where can I find the serial numbers on the SKS. I'm curious to see how close mine is to matching.

I've found:

Left of receiver
Near butt of the stock
Magazine (the hinged part, not the bottom "funnel" that is attached to the reciever)

What else am I missing?

Bolt and trigger group (bottom of trigger guard if I remember correctly).

In addition to what you mentioned:
Bolt
Bolt Cover
Trigger guard

At least, that's where my Vietnam war trophy Chicom SKS is marked.

Thanks for the info both of you guys.

I found out one is a 1969 and the other is 1974. The 1974 has matching SNs on bolt, reciever cover, trigger guard, magazine, and stock. It has some minor wear marks probably from storage but other than that, a hell of a steal for $138 + $8 shipping!

Ah the sweet smell of cosmoline! I'm suprised at how little there is on the outside of the gun!

There's also a serial on the bottom of the gas tube and one on the stock. Seems like they (or at least the Yugos) serialized everything.

Just curious which one's you picked up from IO?

I was looking at their unissued and they were pretty good priced.

I got the $138 unissued one, two actually, shipping ran about $9 for both guns, FedEx Ground.

The one was 1969 with one part non-matching. The second is 1974 with all numbers matching. I've not had time to degrease it yet. IO puts their import marks on the barrel under the gas tube between the end of the stock and the bayont and doesn't look hidious like some importers do. The 1974 one has an excellent light color on its stock. It'll probably look pretty slick once I get the cosmo baked out of it. I'll post pics later of them both!

The 1969 one is plenty accurate with Wolf 122gr, I didn't have anywhere to bench it except over the roof of a car, but it did a nice group at about 30 feet. With the cheap Wolf ammo, my bad eyes, and awful shooting habits, this rifle is probably more accurate than me.
