Browning FN Mark 1

My GF's dad just bought one of these in minty clean condition for 200 bucks even.

It says "Ingles Canada" on the side and has "MK1 *" on the slide (star included).

It has a slot in the back for a removable buttstock (im guessing).

It's serial number has the digits "CH" in it.

It has an "AK Style" sliding rear sight marked out to an astonishing 600 meters or yards.

From what I have read they were made in 1945 in Canada for the Chinese. This one is in brand-new condition. It says "Browning FN" on the slide also.

MY QUESTIONS:

What is the deal with this gun? Do you know any history on the design, purpose, & what not?

How much is this worth? I have seen from $500-$2300 with the attachable stock and in much worse condition.

Are there any reasons this should not be carried for self defense or put through holster use?

Is it going to be impossible to find holsters, magazines, and replacement parts?

Is this what people call a "BROWNING HIGH POWER". Does this gun have a large following?

OK, that is enough for now. I tried google and you can see the little bit of info that I got. Thanks in advance my XD Talk brethren.
