Hey what's the easiest way to purchase one of these? and who manufactures them? because if i'm understanding it right if i buy a legal shot gun and then modify it then i have to pay the $275 tax stamp but if i buy one already modified then it's only a $5 tax. so does this rule apply if i buy it from an individual who has already modified it? all answers are welcome

i am not sure how Texas works but every where i have lived the rule is if you buy from owner then there is no taxes of any kind

If it's an NFA item (shotgun with barrel less than 18" or overall length less than 26"), there will always be a $200 tax stamp for an individual to own it.

As far as how to get one, you've got to talk with a dealer who has the proper license to do a Form 4 transfer for a short barreled shotgun (SBS) or a SBS without a stock (AOW - any other weapon). Any halfway decent gunsmith can then cut the barrel for you.

SERBU makes them.

If you make one, it's $200 tax on a form 1.

If you buy one already registered (obviously), it's a $5 tax on a form 4.

you can never install a buttstock on it and must keep it in pistol form. Adding a buttstock would change the status and would make it a short barrel shotgun instead of an Any Other Weapon.
