Obtaining a Suppressor
Does anyone know of an instance where someone has been turned down for a Conceal Carry Permit, but approved for a suppressor? I am asking for a friend that doesn't think he will be approved the suppressor, since he was turned down for his CCW. (I'm just not sure if one is a more in-depth BG check than the other)
Thanks

Why was he turned down for a CCW?

I highly doubt it! Why was he turned down for a CCW? Does he own any hand guns? Did he buy any of those hang guns from a dealer? If you can't get a CCW because whatever reason, I'm pretty sure the same reason will apply to a suppressor. But, on that note, I may be completely off considering you don't carry a suppressor on your weapon when out in public. I'm interested to find out as well.

I was told that it might be a possession charge about 20 years ago. He owns many pistols, rifles, and shotguns, all legally bought from local gun shops. (Usually has to wait about 3 days tho)

+ on getting it expunged. If it's a nonviolent then I doubt he would have too much to go through

He can still legally buy handguns means generally its a misdemeanor so he should be able to get it expunged fairly easy after 20 years (assuming no other legal issues since).

I have a related question.. My wife has a criminal history from 10 years ago, and has been turned down to buy firearms. Anybody know if that would be a problem if I were to send in a form for a supressor? Do they do a background check on your spouse as well?

They don't background check your spouse, and technically only the owner is supposed to be in possession of it, but if she is ever found with access to a gun not locked up (or God forbid an NFA device) in the same house she is living in, that's instant jail time.
Felons can never be in possession of a weapon. That's Federal law.
Add 10 years for NFA.
