I cannot perform the overhand behind the ejection port, because I have to keep the grip safety held in, and therefore cannot push in the slide lock at the same time. I was told that one shoudn't rack a slide by covering the ejector port with an overhand grip, when there is a round in the chamber. I read it is possible to cause a jam, or worse, cause an unfired round to detonate in your hand.

Can anyone here lock the slide with an overhand grip, without covering the ejection port? (with a the magazine out, of course.)
I think I figured it out. (sorry I didn't just edit the first post. Thought some might not see the edit.)

If I want to use my normal procedure of dropping the magazine, then locking the slide out, I can first drop the slide, than rack the round out without locking the slide. Then pull back and lock the slide with my overhand over the ejection port. No danger, as there is no round chambered.

That grip safety seems like a good feature, as it is much harder to have an accidental discharge by absentmindedly pulling the trigger. The web of your hand needs to be firmly in that grip. Anyone have a problem with shooting quickly from the hip without bring the sights up to eye? Seems like that might require some training with this gun, as you have to really have a good hold on the grip very early in the draw motion in order to shoot from the hip. Anyone agree? Disagree?

Thanks very much.

After numerous dry firing and slide-racking, I think I've gotten better at racking and locking that slide open, without having to have my hand over the ejection port. Guess I ought to try harder next time before posting.

I'm hitting the range today or tomorrow!

Night sights

My XD came with night sights. Slightly disappointed with them, as they don't seem as bright as my friend's stock Tricons on his Kahr. Also, the Tricons have the double dot on the rear site. Mine have one single dot in the rear. Not sure which method is better, but I'd like them to be brighter.

One of the beautiful (and sometimes expensive) things about firearms.
You can pick the accessories that you like and work for you. Check out some TFO's. http://www.truglo.com/content/products/firearm/handgun_sights/handgun_sights.asp
