Need Help on a XD

I have read as much info as I can get my hands on to about the XD line. This coming week I am going to buy my first XD. I am leaning more toward the XD 40 with the four in. barrel. Is there a big difference between the four and five in. barrel when it comes to accuracy? It will mainly be used for target shooting and home defense. I have held one and love the fit and feel of it. I would like to get a sub compact to carry down the line. Which holster are good ones to go with and which are ones to stay away from? Now with ammunition, have you found any brands or grain size making a tighter grouping that you have found? Thanks for your help and time.

Welcome to the forum from UT!

If you are going to use it for Range/Home Protection use, I recommend the 5 inch. You get a bigger sight radius which will help with accuracy and a modest velocity boost. As for ammunition and holsters, use the search feature. There are countless discussions covering these subjects.

+1. I have the 5" on .45 for home protection and the 4" .40 for cool weather carry (under vest or heavy shirt).

Welcome from Indiana! For home defence & target shooting I would get the 5" tactical & then get the sub-compact for carrying. But just my 2 cents worth!

welcome... for a holster that's not going to me more than an accessory for the range, and maybe around the house Fobus is okay for not a lot of money, i prefer them over most of the other cheaper brands like uncle mikes etc, make sure you get one with the tension adjustment screw. i also like the Blackhawk Serpa, for only a little more.

as for ammo.. get the gun, and try out different types. you'll find one you like easier that way, and plus its far more fun that taking someones word for it

cheers

Welcome from Michigan. Either will make a great home defense weapon especially with a Laser Max Or Crimson Trace.
