New XD Owner, have a few questions
Hey guys,
I've been browsing these forums for the past couple of months before deciding to join. This message board is a really valuable resource for information; I'm glad I found it I'm in Vermont, and have a Springfield XD Tactical 9mm. It's my first pistol and at the moment I'm not the best shot with it, but I know practice makes perfect. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a Sub-Compact instead since I'd like concealed carry ability, but I'm surprisingly finding a good way to conceal it in a IWB holster without it bulging out too much; but I need to be wearing a light jacket over it to go unnoticed. Anyways, I had a question regarding Springfield Armory's lifetime warranty. I want to customize/install some modifications in my XD but I'm afraid that if I end up having a part break and then send it back to them to have it fixed they'll refuse to since it's been customized. I didn't read anything before that said anything like that, but I wanted to double check beforehand. Second question: I'm finding that out of everything it's the recoil that I'm having trouble with. It feels like cheating if I shoot slow, so I like to make somewhat quick follow-up shots. What after-market parts would you suggest to help with this? I'm thinking of getting Don's guide rod, and a match-grade barrel. Should I really bother with these or should I just figure out strategies of practicing and dealing with the recoil? Last question: Anyone know of any good gunsmiths in New England? I looked in the phone book and none were listed, so I figured a good recommendation here would be better. I definitely plan on getting some Sure Sight's installed in my gun at least, so I wanted a good gunsmith that could do it for me (since I'd mess it up somehow I'm sure). Anyways, great being here and I'd appreciate any answers to my questions. The XD kicks ass |

Welcome!!
For your first question. I would suggest to keep all your OEM parts. Second. Dons guide rods are awesome. You can always try new springs like "Wolf" to help you with your problem. Third. I dont know any gunsmith out there.

Welcome to the forum from UT!
I would imagine that if you modified your firearm and then it broke on you, SA could claim the mod was at fault and charge for the repair, but I have no experience with this issue. 2nd, If you want to learn to fire fast and accurately, learn to fire accurately first. If you cannot hit the target at the range in a rapid fire mode, how will you hit a target in a self defense/extreme stress situation. Take your time to learn proper grip, sight picture and reset. I shoot 45 autos and I bought a ruger 22/45 pistol in 22 caliber to practice the above with. Good Luck. |
