New from Dallas, Texas
Hey guys, i don't have one yet, but i plan on getting a "4 model tomorrow! i've been wanting one for a long time and i'm extremely excited! although i'm not sure which caliber to get. it will be for home defense. i already have a 9mm(Taurus Millennium Pro) so it would be cheaper to get another 9mm, but supposedly the other calibers have more stopping power (and cost more

Welcome to the forum from Milton,FL. The XD 45 Compact in 4" is an awesome firearm, I love mine. The XD 40SC is also an excellent choice that you should not underestimate just because of it's Sub-Compact size. Ultimately the choice is yours, any XD in the 4" flavor is an excellent choice I just prefer the larger calibers. Let us know what you decide to buy we all get a little excited around here when someone buys their first XD.

Welcome from Plano. My first was a 4" 9mm. Next year when I get my CHL, I'm getting a 40 subcompact to carry.

Welcome from another DFW guy.
I have a few steps for you. Go to a gun range and rent a lane. Rent a pistol you are interested in and shoot it. Rent a different one. Repeat. Buy the one you liked shooting the best. Usually the one that was the most comfortable and smallest grouping one. I have had a pistol that felt great in my grip, but was awful to fire. Yes, usually, bigger bullets have more stopping power per round. They also can usually go through more things. The cost will depend on how much you shoot. There is a never ending discussion on which is better. My choice... the 9mm. I am comfortable with it, and gunfights may use more than one round. I like 16. |
