new dude from VA
hey guys...i am new here from Virginia. I am going to buying a XD 9 mm. this will be my first gun purchase. i was wondering if you can give me any info on what exact model I should get. this gun will be used for home defense and taking to the range. I am also thinking of getting my carry permit too.
thanks Jason Manassas, VA |

welcome from VA. i personally would recommend the service model, sometimes mistakingly called the compact. if you plan on carrying the gun a lot you may want to consider the sub-compact due to its smaller size. the ported models (V10) have had issues with cracking, so i would stay away from them. get plenty of ammo and practice. xd's are awesome pistols, i guarantee you will love it!
btw, when you start looking for a holster, check out the crossbreed supertuck!

Welcome, I bought my first gun 2 years ago and it was and XD9-subcompact. Love it and it goes with me all the time. I would go with that model or the 9 Compact with the 4 inch barrel and the full grip depending on what you want to do with. The 4" inch barrel will make the sight distance a little longer and make shooting a little easier if you are new to guns as well. But, either way, there will be more guns and you can get the other models someday.

Welcome from Tx. Find a range that rents guns and spend a weekend or two testing.

Welcome from south Florida. If you're looking for home defense, for a first gun I'd go with the 4 inch model. The sight plane is longer which will indeed give you a better aiming point. As most of my XD brethren will tell you, you'll be buying ANOTHER XD in the not too distant future because these guns kick butt.
