New XD in Ohio-issue with safety

Hi all, just got my new XD 9 4" barrell. Been to the range three times and of course had to buy all of the necessary cleaning supplies, a case to put it all in.
Look forward to more posts. I have noticed that after the third time in being at the range and going thru approx 140 rounds, the area on my right hand where the external safety is, seems to put pressure in that area between my thrumb and index finger. I talked to the range person at the range and he suggested that maybe I am not holding parallel to my right arm (I am right handed). Has anyone else had this issue?

hmm well first off welcome to xd talk from a neighbor to the north and 2nd what do you mean by pressure between your thumb and first finger? is it rubbing your skin raw or is it just causing a pain while shooting? i have the same exact xd model as you and i do not experience this. are you new to shooting?just asking sometimes someone not used to shooting will experience pain their but it goes away once you get used to shooting it more. anyways congrats on the gun man and do some research on the different stances and grips. i personally shoot in a modified weaver stance it works for me.

Welcome to the world of XD's, from Nashville Tennessee.

No, I don't have that problem. I have the .40 4" Service model, and it fits my hand perfectly.

I have couple suggestions. First, always try to rent or borrow a few firearms before actually making the purchase. Even though the XD is an amazing firearm (in my opinion), and works well for many, there are also those people who just don't feel comfortable shooting the XD's. No matter how amazing a gun, it doesn't serve well if you're in pain while shooting.

Secondly, you could always try a shooting glove. I personally don't use/need them, but I do know a handful of guys/gals who often use shooting gloves.

Lastly, just deal with it. After a while, you and your body will get used to the feel of the XD.

I hope you find a solution.

I have the same one you do, and have no problems either. I am assuming you mean the webbing on your right hand(where the rear safety hits) is causing you pain. 2 things to try.

1st, make sure that your hand is firmly into the back of the gun. This will make sure that the safety isn't poking out just a little and rubbing you.

2nd. if that doesn't help, try a small piece of medial tape on your hand(not the safety, cause you should never disable any safety devices). This will keep you from rubbing your hand raw, untll you build a calous up there.

Hope that helps

Welcome from Milton, FL. Maybe you rushed into shooting more rounds off than your hand is comfortable with right now.Next trip maybe shoot 50 and after that 100 and increase the round count each trip. that way your hand will get accustomed to shooting and before long you can shoot as long as you like.I should have first mentioned to be sure you are gripping the firearm properly.
