Question Greetins from NJ! so confused SW MP VS XD

Well im not trying to beat a dead horse here and start another versus thread, but I have too I'm sorry this is alot of money and I want to hear some real non bias input here.

Heres the low down headed over to the local gun shop and really was content on buying myself an XD 4' service 9mm either black or bi tone 540 for back and 590 for bi tone... the bitone sounds a little over priced to me. I was about to finalize the deal and said "ok let me see something in the same category and price" then she proceeded to bring out the Smith Wesson MP. Well this gun seems very nicely finished and is a very attractive weapon. Personally the grip on this gun feels fantastic and for 540 plus two free mags is a nice extra.

Anybody who has dealt with both guns what can i expect in terms of reliability and trigger pull etc etc please contribute you input as I feel like I'm having to choose in between two women this aint easy. Both sexy but whos better or are guns like this just like choosing a lady... personal tastes?

Plus if anybody else has noticed the Smith Wesson online backing and forums are really just lacking and its a turn off.

Thanks Guys!

I dont own both, I own the XD45acp 4" service, but my brother owns the M&P 45, so I do have some input.

I chose the XD myself as I did a lot of research and found the XD to be the one for me. It felt better as far as grip, felt more balanced when loaded to capacity, and I thought it was a better looking gun overall.

The M&P to me is kinda ugly, and I didnt like the grip as much but the trigger was better and it was damn accurate!

I think both are fine pistols and the M&P should be slightly cheaper. I cannot speculate as to reliability on the M&P though. It should be as good as anything S&W ever made. I also dont know what S&W's warranty is but Springfield warraties the XD for life. Thats hard to beat.

Now that the new XD-M is out, you can get the same choices for the XD as is offered inthe M&P such as thumb safety and interchangeable grip pads.

If you have the chance, go to the range and shoot both and see which one you will take home.

if you visit Springfield Armory

you will see the msrp prices.

I picked my .45 up for $529 - the trade in CZ 50 I had.

I visited a couple gun shops yesterday in the Phoenix area and found the XD's range from reasonable to overly inflated..

if you are able, look at the next gun show. check the link above, and shop for the price.

I only own XD's but I looked at the M&P before I bought. I had only shot the Glock and XD.. so I have no opinion on how easy/accurate/ shooting performance.

Here are my thoughts:
1. I did love the interchangeable backstraps of the M&P to customize grip for hand size.
2. The M&P does no require pulling trigger to disassemble.
3. I do not like the feel of the trigger on the M&P-- hooks too far under finger and the whole hinge pin 1/2 way up the trigger doesn't impress me.
4. I know SA has awesome customer service and warranty dept.... not sure about S&W.
5. I like the grip safety on the XD.

Not sure if this helps you or not but this is how I feel about each. The main reasons I swayed to the XD were the grip safety and the trigger. I do like the grip of the M&P.
