Newbie.. Buy Glock or XD

So, I am getting ready to purchase my first semi-auto pistol. I am trying to decide if I should buy an XD or Glock. I am thinking about a .40, but also open to 9mm. I am looking for opinions since this needs to be a good "all-around" gun, for self-defense, concealed carry, as well as range fun. I appreciate your comments.

I've fired a Glock 26, XD9 tactical and XD45 service. All in all I prefer the XD. I find they just "fee" better. They feel better in your hand, and they seem to be build better, and when operating the gun it feels like quality.

The only thing I really like about Glock is the trigger. I find it quite awesome. However, the rest of the gun fell short. Not to say it was bad (it certainly wasn't), I just felt the XD was a better weapon. Similar price range, too.

Welcome to the forum from Florida!

I own both but prefer the feel of the XD. You need to shoot them both and then decide which one you like better.

Welcome to the forum from UT!

I conceal carry my XD45 Service. It is easy to conceal and with the right holster very comfortable. I looked at the glocks and shot a couple but had a hard time hitting accurately with them. I then shot a XD45 and it was comfortable and very accurate. I would suggest you shoot a Glock and an XD, side by side if you can, and decide for yourself which is better. Good Luck.

I own a couple of Glocks, bought my first one in 1986 and after countless thousands of rounds put through it over the past 22 years to include daily carry duty on a regular basis, it has never had a failure to feed or extract. Can't ask much more of a handgun than that.

That being said, I have a XD 45 Tactical and have had no problems with that weapon as well. Bottom line, you really can't go wrong with either one, they are both well screwed together weapons.

I love my XD and went with the 9mm to encourage range time. I chose the XD over the Glock because I liked the feel better, it had passive safety mechanisms (barrel and cocking indicator) and its no contest when it comes to looks.

Welcome!

I suggest you shoot both and buy what fits you best, feels right in your hand and makes you want to shoot it again and again!

I shoot 1911 and XDs, the transition between the two is easy for me.

Good luck on your choosing...
