Hello All!

Hey...new to the forums, and soon to be new to the XD line. I've been looking for a good handgun that will fill both CCW and range duty, and I think I've settled on an XD.

The problem: where can I try one out? I'd love to give one a try and put a box of ammo through it, but I'm not sure of any ranges that rent guns in my area. I was specifically looking at trying out an XD40 sub compact. The range would need to be in the metro-Detroit area, specifically around Ann Arbor.

Also, I was thinking of replacing the stock sights with night sights...take it to SA direct, or a local gunsmith? Opinions?

Thanks!

Welcome from Ohio. I recommend having a local smith install your sights. Mine charges $20.

Thanks!

I've seen one or two on gunbroker with night sights, however I'm not sure I want to have it shipped here...just seems like a lot of paperwork and more time needed on my part. Plus I like instant gratification

Any good guide rod lasers? I found this one: LaserMax: Internal Laser Sight for GLOCK 19, GLOCK 23, GLOCK 32

Looks good, but expensive. Anyone use this before? Seems like it'd be too much work to push in the button in a frantic situation. That being said I think grip lasers look gross, and I can never reliably activate them.

Welcome to the forum from UT!

I would order an XD with night sights and then fire 500 to 1000 rounds before I start to mod the firearm. This way you will learn to shoot properly and get a feel for what mods you would want. A laser is a 'neat' feature but under stress it works no better than the iron sights if you are not familiar with it. Good Luck on your search.

Welcome from Florida. My brother in law lives in ann arbor.

As for the night Sites. The XD can be ordered with the Trijicon sights installed. That will save you install, and if there is a problem, its SAs problem.
