Greetings from the Low Country of SC!
The nick name comes from my past participation (addiction) in NRA High Power events both Across the Course (200/300/600 yards) Long Range (600/1000 yards) and Palma events (800/900/1000 yards, all iron sights)Got a lot of expensive optics and rifles to support my habit. Shoulder surgery in early 2005 and a year of rehab did not prove benefical other that to take away the shoulder pain. Now I shoot "F" class.
During the rehab I discovered I could actually hold (I have small hands)and shoot a double stack .45 ACP pistol. First 1911 purchase was a Colt NM Gold Cup Trophy. Shortly followed by a Taurus PT 24-7 PRO and its baby brother the PT-145 PRO for personal defense. The only pistol caliber I use is .45ACP except for my very first PD pistol, a S&W Highway Patrol in .357 mag. I did buy a Browning High Power in .40 S&W, but I gave that to an old friend. My personal 1911 collection has grown as well as trying to buy every model produced for the SOCOM RFP. That brings me to the latest delivery. a Springfield Armory XD, Tactical in .45 with the 5 inch barrel. I held off until the external thumb safety model was available. I may not have been the first to buy one but I was darn close. I love the 13 round mags and with the external thumb safety, I feel comfortable carrying with one in the pipe. Carrying in Condition One is not a habit and I practice my draw in being able to get it out of the holster, racking the slide and putting the front sight on the target. Although, if I am in a high threat area, I load it up. If I'm not shooting, I'm reloading. I shoot both IDPA and ISPC each month at my local club (PalmettoGunClub.org) as well as two combat matches at a local indoor range plus practice. In June I will start shooting the Steel Challenge matches hosted by Mid-Carolina Gun Club in Columbia, SC. Nothing more satisfying than the clang of steel. I'm a retired (1995) Navy civil service communication project engineer and lucky to be able to pursue my chosen hobbies. I mostly read the multiple forums for information and opinons. |

Welcome from Indiana. I also have a XD45 Tactical, although mine does not have the thumb safety. This pistol has been really fun to shoot. It's my first pistol. I look forward to tapping into your wealth of experience.
Cheers!
