New member from Salt Lake City
Just signed up here and figured I should introduce myself.
I moved to SLC a bit over a year ago to take a job and have just now gotten around to getting the handgun I've been itching to get for about 4 years. I am originally from upstate NY, Poughkeepsie to be exact, but after a short stay in Florida (Stuart) I moved to SLC in November of 06 to take a job in the Semiconductor industry -- I'm a technician and also work as a project manager for our equipment installations. I first learned of the 357 sig round about four years ago and it intrigued me no end, but getting a handgun in NYS is nye impossible and when I moved to Florida in February of 04 I started looking around for a 357 sig handgun but at that time it was very hard to find them. So, about a week ago I visited the local gun shop near Taylorsville (part of SLC) and ordered an XD Tactical in 357 sig with Trijicon sights. Total cost was $635.47 ($587.99 for gun, $7.5 for BCI check, and $39.98 tax). So, I get a call this morning that it arrived and I rushed to the CU for some cash and headed directly to Impact Guns to pickup my new toy. After about 30 minutes to process the paperwork I took my new toy to the indoor range and put the first 50 rounds downrange in about 20 minutes. This is my first handgun and it's been since 1981 that I last fired one (38 qualification in USAF). When I figure out how to upload an image I'll show you my first efforts at about 5m. Brian |

I should add that I'd heard the 357 sig has significant recoil but I didn't feel it was all that much. The XD Tactical fits my hand almost perfectly and the triger is sweet -- very smooth and lighter pull than I expected.
Now my biggest problem is that as 51 years of age I have lost close in vission and need galsses for reading, but I don't need them for driving or beyond arms reach. Problem is, it helps to have glasses to see the sights but that messes up the downrange vission -- any ideas here? Lastly, although this is my first handgun I've owned two riffles going back about 30 years: Marlin 33C in 30-30 and a Bushmaster Varminter 223 with free floating handguard and 24" barrel. Brian |
