Welcome to the forum from UT! Please ask anything, we are a good bunch who try to answer quickly and accurately.

Find a good friend who can teach you to shoot safely and properly or take a shooting class if available. Hollow point ammunition is best for personal defense use, but you need to fire about 100 round of hollow point ammo in your firearm to make sure it functions properly. Ball ammo or full metal jacket ammo is cheaper than hollow points and is good for practice.

I got 25 hollow points and 100 full metal jackets with it. The hollow points are kinda expensive, I really should fire 100?

If your firearm is for personal protection, then you MUST BE 100% confident that your firearm will function flawlessly if you need it. After you have tried a specific brand of hollow points (all are fine in my opinion) and have had not failures with them in your firearm, you will not need to constantly use the hollow points for practice. That is what the full metal jacket (FMJ) bullets are for.

I have two hand guns I use for concealed carry. One is a XD 45 and the other is a 1911. Both shoot the same caliber, 45 acp, but I had some Remington Hollow Points that functioned flawlessly in my XD, but I had some issues in my 1911. It was not until I had fired over 50 HPs through the 1911 that I had issues.

All of this advice is on the assumption that your pistol is for personal defense. Do not get discouraged. I have a box of HP's that I have had for several years. I load them up for personal defense needs, but when I go to the range, I unload the expensive bullets and shoot the cheaper ammo.

If you bought a self defense weapon (home defense I assume since WI has no conceal carry permits) my suggestion would be to find an NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home course. There you can hook up with an instructor for a few live fire sessions. It cost a little money, but it is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than putting 100 HP through your weapon to make sure it feeds. The XD will feed about anything you can buy in a store--stick with proven factory ammo. I would rather you spend the money on instruction (which would include how to handle misfeeds and clear jams) than just buying 100 round of HP's to put down range. Even if you are a good shot getting good advice from people you know, I guarantee that a good instructor will teach you something that will improve you abilities, make you more competent, and better prepare you to defend yourself and your loved ones.

btw: the XD9 is the perfect choice. I'm buying one for my wife this fall.
