New Guy from NH

Hello all. I am a first time handgun owner from NH. I grew up with .22's and shotguns as I hunted extensively through my mid 20's. I stopped shooting as I concentrated solely on fishing. Recently, as I have seen more and more scary events involving shootings I decided I would not allow myself or my family to become a victim and that I would carry for personal protection.
After doing some research, I narrowed my choices down to a Glock 23 or a Springfield XD .40. I went down to my local gun shop last Saturday and compared the two side by side. I liked the Glock but the Springfield just felt better. So, thats what I walked out of there with. I plan on going to the range to get comfortable with it. I would also like some recommendations for a good carry holster for it as the one that comes with it feels a little bulky to me.
It was nice to find this site. I hope to learn much from it. Thanks for listening.

Welcome from PA...enjoy XDtalk. The XD Gear holster shouldn't be used as a carry holster. There are a bunch of good holster makers that make stuff for the XD. Comp Tac, K&D Holsters, Crossbreed, etc. You just need to decide if you want IWB or OWB carry options.
