Hey Everyone.
Going to jump into the world of modern day pistols. I have broken it down to a XD-5 9mm or the Glock 17. Sell me on XD!!!!!. Thanks in advance for any input. |

More people prefer the grip on the XD, and that it has a fully supported chamber.
The XD's reliability is on par with the GLOCK.

XD's also have a trigger and grip saftey while the glock doesn't. The feel is the best way to convince you which you should buy. Rent them side my side and fire them. Then you tell us how it feels and shoots.

I was at a gun shop again today and held the Glock in my hand again. After owning the XD40SC and going back to compare to the glock - I'm glad I made the right decision. Just didn't feel right in my hand at all. The XD feels great and now that I stippled the grips (would do the same on the glock) there's no chance that it would ever slip from my grip.
What really sold me on the difference between the glock and the XD are some pretty simple differences but it was the difference to me. 1: The grip was better on the XD for me 2: BEAVER TAIL GRIP!!! That was the big deal. The glock only fires when the trigger is pulled but I could imagine a lot of times when the trigger might get pulled (hung on something) when it was intended to he. The XD solved this. I hear people on here that talk about making sure not to holster the XD with the beavergrip engaged but in effect - when you holster a glock w/o a beavergrip safety - you are basically hoping the trigger doesn't snag on something. 3: Takedown lever - while not a huge deal - I like the familiar take down lever better than the small, hard to activate, take down "slider" on a glock 4: Trigger! Yep, the glock trigger setup is the same but different than the XD. The center piece sits at a different angle than the XD and causes it to catch the skin on my finger and pinches. The XD don't do this. |

Welcome to the forum. The Glock is a fine pistol, but I much prefer the XD for the reasons cited above. It would be a good idea to shoot both in a side-by-side test, as suggested. You decide which is better for you.
